AUGUSTA, Maine – Maine’s state parks and historic sites will remain open and staffed on Friday, Aug. 7, even though the day has been designated as a state shutdown day according to a citizen’s advisory issued by the Department of Conservation.

Maine Forest Service forest rangers also will remain on duty to provide law enforcement and forest protection in the Maine woods.

On Friday, Aug. 7, Bureau of Parks and Lands operational staff will be on duty, while headquarters and administrative staff will be off for the shutdown day. Park managers, rangers, lifeguards and customer service representatives still will be working that day.

The full amenities of the parks will be available. Park fees still will be collected, and park facilities will be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.

Statewide, there will be roughly 30 to 40 Maine Forest Service forest rangers on duty during the shutdown day.

The rangers will perform their regular duties, responding to complaints, conducting inspections and performing law-enforcement activities.
