On Saturday, October 10 at 7:30 pm, right here at Celebration Barn Theater, Brad Hooper headlines Musical Hammer, an evening of song to benefit Beth’s House. Proceeds from the show go to the community effort to build a home to meet the needs of local resident Beth Coffin, a 24-year-old woman disabled by a congenital disease called spinal muscular atrophy.
The diverse line-up features Jewel Clark & Donny Katlin, Nathan Towne and Peter Morton, and Tom Myhre. Tickets are $10 and are available at Books N Things & Creative Media in Norway and at the door while supplies last.
Headliner Brad Hooper was born in Omaha, NE and raised just outside of Chicago, but he moved "home" to Maine in 1980. Brad’s earliest recollection of singing is with his brother in their bunk beds. Brad would lay in bed with his finger in the air like the stem of a turntable and Jeff would pick the next song. He would sing requests until they both fell asleep. Brad’s album, Midnight at the Hilltop Hotel, is dedicated to Jimmy Green "Spoons" who once told him, "Play from the heart, forget all the flash. Those who cared would nurture and care for his heart; those that didn’t would teach him to know the difference." Brad’s lived that way ever since.
Portland’s Bollard Magazine raved, " There’s a new troubadour in town, name of Brad "Squintwood" Hooper, and he will knock your socks off."
A spectacular line-up of local musicians will join Brad on stage:
Jewel Clark is a multi-faceted singer-songwriter in the country tradition, and daughter of legendary cowboy yodeler, Yodeling Slim Clark. Whether she’s singing her original Country and Honky-Tonk influenced songs, Rock n Roll, Blues or yodeling to the old standards – many of which were written by her father, and have become true classics – Jewel shares a fun and energetic connection with her audiences that is truly heartfelt – sincere and real. Joined by Donny Katlin, the duo present awe-inspiring harmonies.
Nathan Towne is a native of Norway. His solo album Short Circuit features 12 original songs which reflect Nate’s rock and roll upbringing and the influences of CCR, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell.
Peter Morton is a singer-songwriter from Western Maine who’s style spans generations and genres. From old time standards to Led Zeppelin, Peter always brings humor, smiles and laughter and a few surprises.
Tom Myhre is a singer/songwriter as well as a local pastor (Trinity Lutheran, South Paris) who grew up near Duluth, Minnesota, lived in Switzerland for 15 years, and then moved to Maine with his family in 2007. In his original songs he tries to give voice to the universal through the everyday and tries to see the big things in the little things, the sacred in the profane. He released his debut CD "Auf Wiedersehen" in 2007 and his second, "Fly Away," will be released soon. At the Celebration Barn Benefit Concert Tom will be debuting his latest song which is dedicated to Beth and titled, "Build Me a House."
Help make the community dream to build a house for Beth Coffin a reality this Saturday, October 10 at the Barn!
Hope to see you there!
