Make Sure You Come to the14th Annual Kids Pirates Party
Saturday, October 24, 5-8 pm

For fourteen years the Kids Pirates Party at Maine Maritime Museum has been a favorite Halloween tradition in the Midcoast. This year the Museum will be bringing back many of the old favorites along with some new twists for buccaneers of every age.

Once again the local sea music group Roll and Go will be performing the traditional songs of the sea. Almondarr’s Grand Illusion featuring the award-winning magic of Marcus Almondarr Steelgrave and Angelique Steelgrave will be trilling folks with their pirate-themed illusions. The Pirates of the Dark Rose will be offering demonstrations of swordplay. There’ll be crafts and snacks and a treasure hunt, and a chance to visit a real pirate encampment and stories around the bonfire with Captain Black Jim Spudcake.

This year’s Pirates Party will feature several new and frightening (but not too frightening) events. A “Pirate Skool” will teach young wannabe buccaneers the skills they need for a life on the high seas, with a chance to sign Pirate’s Articles with a real quill pen. A Haunted Pirate Inn will recreate the kind of seaport hang-out beloved of pirates (at least, pirates of the netherworld!) The party will culminate (weather permitting) with a mass pirate attack in which a determined band of rogues will attempt to plunder the galleonSherman Zwicker while the militia tries to hold them off with real cannon and musket fire! Who will emerge victorious?

In addition to the usual suspects, the party will be created and organized by young volunteers from the community. Students at Morse High School in Bath and the teenagers from Sea Scout Ship 243, many of whom attended the Pirates Party as young children, will be returning to help plan, decorate and run the events this year.

Old favorites, new events, plenty of fun and thrills for the high seas rover in all of us – Maine Maritime Museum’s fourteenth annual Pirate Party is not to be missed!*

*and if you do miss it, a crusty old pirate will show up on your door and hand you a piece of paper and a black spot. We don’t know what happens after that.
