Sage: Salvia officinalis. Salvia is derived from the Latin word salver, which means to cure and to save.

Sage for Someone The name was fabricated by Scout MacKay and Dylan Chapman, on November 22, 2008. Having played together as a duo since August 2007, MacKay and Chapman wanted a name that was symbolic, but also something that could be redefined for every listener. As trumpet and flugle horn player Mike Whitehead said when the name was first introduced to him, Sage for Someone “poses a question.”

Together as Sage for Someone, Scout MacKay, Dylan Chapman, Mike Whitehead, and Jason Dean perform their original music throughout Maine. The music can be classified as Indie-rock, but with influences such as Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, Tori Amos,  Marvin Gaye, Habib Koite, and Thom Yorke, the music takes on a unique and indescribable feel. “To assign a genre to a band can be limiting,” MacKay explains, “we love all music – and all music has the same origin.” From their slow jazz ballads “Into November” and “You Must have Read my Mind” to the more outspoken tunes “Clockwise” and “My Simplicity”, Sage for Someone redefines Indie Rock as an all-inclusive genre with no inspirations left out.
