Baxter Tea Company was founded by Lisa Liberatore, a Maine native who grew up running up and down the lakes, rivers and mountains of Baxter State Park. As a kid she called Mount Katahdin her “playground” and watched wide-eyed as moose and deer roamed the fertile acreage and loons were in evidence on pristine waterways. At the age of 10 she asked where did this park come from? She then learned why as she researched the story of Governor Percival Baxter.
Baxter, a wealthy Maine landowner and former governor of the state, donated 201,018 acres of lush wilderness in the heart of Maine so that kids like her could come to appreciate the natural beauty of the green outdoors from birth and carry their experiences throughout their entire lives.
Now Lisa is a grown up, but she’s never forgotten the generosity of the stranger who gave her and so many others such wonderful childhood memories of the beautiful Maine outdoors. So now she’s giving back. Today, Baxter Tea Co. donates 10% of loose tea sales to Baxter State Park for its preservation of for future generations.
Because of support from her broad customer base, Lisa is pleased to announce that she will be opening a retail store at 289 Water St. next month! Her new business will be serving her products as well as selling them. She also plans to share her storefront with Sweet Love, a Gardiner based company that specializes in high end wedding dresses and, one of my favorite items, gourmet cupcakes.
When they open, Lisa hopes that you will drop by and check out their new business venture and thanks everyone for their continued support of Maine based businesses.
