Walter F. McKee, a partner with the law firm Lipman, Katz & McKee, was recently honored at a Maine National Guard ceremony for his work as a Maine Trial Lawyer that provides free or low-cost legal services to military service members and their families when the Judge Adjutant General Corps (JAG), the legal branch of the military, is restricted.
"JAG officers have a limited ability to do things that don’t involve direct military issues. What we do as trial lawyers is talk to soldiers about their civilian problems, which is our area of expertise," said McKee. "As a former JAG officer myself, I’m pleased to continue to help our men and women who serve in the Maine Army National Guard."

McKee assists the Maine National Guard with legal services in addition to handling his full-time case load at Lipman, Katz & McKee where he focuses on litigation. McKee was a JAG officer with the Maine Army National Guard from 1996-2004, and was a captain when he completed his service. While a JAG officer, he served as Defense Counsel and Senior Defense Counsel with the State Area Command and Trial Counsel for the 240th Engineer Group. He received a number of state medals and awards including an Army Commendation Medal, an Army Achievement Medal, and a Humanitarian Service Medal.
