spectrum FREE STRENGTH SCREENING AT SPECTRUM GENERERATIONS COHEN COMMUNITY CENTER

 SPECTRUM GENERATONS’ William S. Cohen Community Center invites the general public to learn more about which muscle groups are your strong points and how to safely use them to build up the not-so-strong areas with a Free Strength Screening at the Cohen Center. Find out how you can fine tune your exercise routine for better results with Laurie LaBonte, a physical therapist from MaineGeneral Medical Center on Wed., Jan 27, from 9:00 to 11:00.  Laurie will offer a 15 minute introduction followed by individual screenings in 10 minute time slots.  Your general strength will be assessed and suggestions will be offered to help you improve your fitness and tolerance to the activities you enjoy doing.  For more information and to register please call Maggie or Kristin at 626-7777 or stop by the Cohen Center located at 22 Town Farm Road in Hallowell.

SPECTRUM GENERATIONS MAKING PLANS TO FEED MORE LOW INCOME RESIDENTS

SPECTRUM GENERATONS’ William S. Cohen Community Center, today announced that, in collaboration with the Good Shepherd Food Bank, the Augusta Food Bank and the State of Maine, the center is developing plans to offer a new program that would provide low-income residents, 60 years and older with approximately 30 pounds of FREE food each month.  Lynda Johnson, Nutrition Coordinator, states, “We recognize that times are tough, especially for those over the age of 60 and on fixed incomes. We anticipate the success of this new “Food Bank” will help hundreds of residents in Central Maine.”

The program will offer shelf stable foods such as pasta, tuna and peanut butter to those recipients meeting income eligibility requirements.  Pick up of the donated commodities will be the sole responsibility of the recipient at a predetermined location and time each month.
