Kennebec valley dentalKennebec Valley Dental Center (KVDC), a nonprofit dental clinic based in Augusta, Maine, has received a $10,000 grant from the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation. KVDC makes affordable, high-quality oral health care services available to low-income residents in central Maine. The funds provided by the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation will be used to purchase a dental chair and related equipment.

The Northeast Delta Dental Foundation is dedicated to improving oral health in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. “One of the Foundation’s giving priorities is to support dental clinics treating patients whose oral health needs are not being met, so we’re very happy to provide this grant to Kennebec Valley Dental Center,” said Betty Andrews, Secretary and Assistant Treasurer of the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation.

“Since we opened our doors in September 2008, we have seen thousands of patients,” said KVDC Executive Director Kim Gordon, RDH. “We are grateful to the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation, because having the proper equipment in place will go a long way toward effectively and efficiently providing people in this area of Maine with much-needed oral health care services.”

Gordon founded KVDC with the vision of creating a dental practice that treats every patient with dignity and first-rate care, regardless of the patient’s financial or socio-economic status. KVDC accepts Northeast Delta Dental insurance, MaineCare, and private pay, and offers an income-based, sliding-scale on fees.

“Health care costs are on everyone’s minds these days,” continued Gordon. “It’s important to remember that preventing tooth decay and other dental diseases is necessary to improve health and reduce health care costs overall. Tooth decay, in particular, can be dangerous, but is largely preventable. That’s why we want to provide preventive oral health care to as many people as possible.”

Founded in September 2008, KVDC is a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) charitable organization that makes affordable, high-quality oral health care services available to low-income residents in southern Kennebec County (Augusta, Maine, and the surrounding communities). KVDC, the only dental center serving low-income residents in this area of Maine, is located on Water Street in downtown Augusta.
