News From the Band:

Ahhhh, we’re on the UP side of Winter:  And with that in mind, how about getting your blues jones fulfilled with us at any number of classy venues?

2010 has come in with a bang for us and we’ll continue the tradition of  the rockin’ blues/soul/county/roll all over Maine, N.H. and Mass. well into this year and beyond.  Look for us all over southern Maine up into the ski areas and we’re going to get ourselves a little farther south some more this year too.

Tell your friends, tell your babysitter, tell your teachers, tell the mailman, come on out and party some with us!  Join us on FACEBOOK! The economy is picking up and you’re going to need a place to spend some of that stimulus money!

We’re debuting some new clubs every month, which means that it’ll only be a short drive to wherever it is we’re playing tonight. We haven’t seen you lately. The nights are getting shorter so opportunity is knocking to get out and have some fun!  Be sure to get out and support your local live music venue as well as the musicians. For them it’s a labor of love, they do it for your appreciation.

Meanwhile check the schedule as we keep workin’ it on through the winter. We’ve eclipsed 100 performances again for the 3rd straight year.

MUSICIANS!  It’s been TWO, COUNT ‘EM TWO years and thank you for your support!  THE JAM IS HOPPIN’ UP IN LEWISTON!  Our run at the jam sponsored by the Maine Blues Society at the Cage is now into its’ 12th month. So if you’d like to trade licks with yours truly (c’mon lemme have it, I can take it!) or just want to comp some rhythm with a random collection of players, then polish off the old axe, jump in the jalopy and head over to The Cage at 97 Ash Street in Lewiston. We’ve met a ton of great folks both musicians and blues lovers.  This is quickly becoming the place to be in L/A on Thursday nights.  We’d LOVE to have you!

Be sure to get out and support live music at your local establishment and if we’re in town we’d LOVE to have you hear us! Check the schedule and stop by.
Check out the Maine BluesnSociety website, join!  Support the Blues! See ya soon!

Ron Gill, aka “Pokechop”, has been playing rockin’ rhythm and blues guitar for any number of years now. He was born in New York City but spent most of his life in the west.  What began in a small Colorado cow town as an experiment at playing a musical instrument in the 1960′s during the heyday of the British Invasion turned into a lifetime of study and devotion to the guitar, harmonica and all styles of the blues.  Influences are many as would be expected over the period of this long a time but current favorites are Little Charlie Baty, Freddie King and Hollywood Fats on guitar,  James Harman and of course Little Walter on harmonica and Jimmy Reed and Lucky Peterson for their songwriting skills.  Other groups he’s performed in are The Phantom Freeway Rhythm and Blues Revue, Otis T. and the Hammers, Cindy Sweeney and Wichita River and Plymouth Rock.  Did I mention, Once upon a time the blues boarded a riverboat down in New Orleans. . .

Dial us up when we come to your neighborhood, support your local musical establishment and have a great time!  We’re performing all up and down the beeyoutiful Maine Riviera, that stretch of the northern east coast that includes sandy beaches and cool surf.  Come say howdy so we can get to know you.

The Players: The Other White Meats (TOWM).

BASS-Holding down the bottom end is Chad  “Lamb Chop”  Thorne .   Chad, a natural right-hander, switched to playing guitar lefty as a result of an injury many years ago.  In the midst of that process Chad also found his true “musical voice,” the electric bass. He has now played that instrument, thankfully and joyfully, for a number of years in a variety of musical contexts.  Chad is happy to be “bringing the funk” with PTOWM.   While he IS a lefty, we won’t hold it against him.

DRUMS-Well the nature of the business has called us to search for the newest member of the white meats!  Check back to see what the future holds! While driving  an unforgettable beat is their trade, these men comprise the rock solid rhythm section that is the hallmark of dance music around the world.

HARMONICA-Harpman, Duane Asdourian:  Born and raised in the sleepy North East, this Yankee blow master brings his own special “bend” to the reeds.  He began playing harmonica shortly after learning to walk when little Donna from the 3rd grade told him he’d never top Elvis on her charts.  He’s played venues from Bermuda, to Nassau, to Mexico, Aruba and the Barbados, once sitting in with Poppa Chubby.  His influences include John Mayall, James Cotton, Paul Butterfield and Lee Oskar.   Nobody works the harmonica more effortlessly, nor shills for the band any harder than Duane!
