New Showcase Event at St. Lawrence Arts Center to Give Maine Musicians Professional Boost

The Maine Songwriters Association and the St. Lawrence Arts Center announced today a new collaboration to stage a series of concerts that will showcase the talents of Maine’s top aspiring singer/songwriters and musicians.

“The stage at the St. Lawrence Arts Center is, hands down, the best small performance venue in the Portland area and it is a privilege for any musician to perform there,” said Peter Alexander, president of the Maine Songwriters Association. “We are thrilled to make this incredible venue available for the professional and career development of our members, where they can showcase their original material.”

The concert showcases, which are scheduled every other month starting on Wednesday, March 17, will each feature three of Maine’s best aspiring musicians.  Performers will be vetted and selected through a competitive process overseen by three independent judges.

“These events will give musicians a true concert performance experience,” said Deirdre Nice, executive director of the St. Lawrence Arts Center. “They also provide an ideal opportunity for club owners, agents, entertainment writers, and other music industry professionals to see new talent, and for working musicians to scout new material and new partnerships.”
