Maeve Gilchrist performs at Chocolate Church, 798 Washington Street
Scots harpist and singer/songwriter Maeve Gilchrist will perform at the Chocolate Church Arts Center, 804 Washington Street in Bath on Friday March 5th at 7:30 p.m. Appearing with Scottish Jazz Awards recipient, bassist Aidan O’Donnell, Maeve’s innovative brand of folk-jazz fusion on Scottish harp stretches its harmonic limits and places it firmly as a dominant instrument in improvised music. Maeve has knocked out audiences at venues such as the Tanglewood Jazz Festival, Celtic Connections, The World Harp Congress, Boston Pops Jazz Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe. Marrying traditional and self-penned songs and tunes to jazz and Latin American influences, Maeve is currently based in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she is much in demand, playing solo or with her New Acoustic Duo with Aidan O’Donnell. From Portobello, Edinburgh, she was educated at the City of Edinburgh Music School at Broughton High. A Dewar Arts Scholarship took her to Boston and the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where she graduated two years ago, having won its “Outstanding Performer of the Year” award and a full tuition scholarship among others. Tickets are $12 in advance.
