As I noted in an email to you earlier this week, the “Jacob’s Ladder” staircase that connects Neal and Robinson streets had to be removed by the City because of unsafe conditions. It had been cordoned off from public use for a few months after a visit to the site revealed it was in disrepair. I have confirmed with Code Enforcement Officer David Cichowski that the quotes received to replace the stairway – between $8,000 – $19,000 – were essentially just to replace the existing structure and would not necessarily comply with current stair codes or ADA requirements.
As a songwriter Fulks is difficult to define. Many of his compositions are silly, funny or spoof songs, while others are serious country songs. One album, 2001′s Couples in Trouble comes off more as an experimental rock album than as country. A good example of the alternative nature of some of his work is the song Godfrey (“the sickly, unemployed, amateur children’s magician”) on the compilation album for children The Bottle Let Me Down.
“Amory Raymond, Shaun Bolduc and Chris Sweet commit themselves to playing as slick and funky as they can; reworking their favorite tunes for the 3 piece”
The Friday before Memorial Day Weekend 2010, was a great evening to be in Gardiner. The 1st Annual Hogs, Pies and Fireworks went off without a hitch and the crowd was thoroughly impressed; not only by the fireworks display of Central Maine Pyrotechnics, but also by the delicious pizza that was served up by several downtown businesses.
On Saturday, August 7, Water Street, in downtown Gardiner will come alive with the Go Go Gardiner Car Show and Sock Hop. Starting at 5:30pm, Water Street will be lined with classic and custom cars and trucks for people to view and admire.
The nation’s Veterans received good news this week when the Veterans Administration announced that it would no longer punish Veterans who are using medical marijuana in compliance with their state’s law for taking their medicine. Under previous rules, Veterans could be denied prescription pain medications if they tested positive for marijuana.
Mike Doughty (“looking At The World From The Bottom Of A Well “, “I Hear Bells”, and “Busting Up a Starbucks”), is an American Indie and Alternative singer/song-writer and former lead singer for the jazzy/electronic, not-quite-mainstream band Soul Coughing. He now has a strong and flourishing solo career, and has since returned to his acoustic roots on his latest disc, Sad Man, Happy Man (2009).
Finish an evening of art and festivities in downtown Rockland with this compelling new documentary film. Centered on a rare interview that director and friend Tamra Davis shot with Basquiat over twenty years ago, this definitive documentary chronicles the meteoric rise and fall of the young artist. In the crime-ridden NYC of the 1970s, he covers the city with the graffiti tag SAMO.
When an American family moves to a historic home in Britain, they find the ghostly Sir Simon as an unexpected houseguest. Wilde’s tale pokes fun at money-solves-all-problems sensibilities, but is also the charming tale of a frustrated ghost and the young girl who believes in his goodness.
