the colwell bros

Pat (L) and Bob Colwell

This Friday the Harlow Gallery will be hosting The Colwell Brothers from 5PM to 8PM as part of the Performing Arts Showcase that comes to a close for 2011.

The Artists of Hallowell is being sponsored by Dead River Company, Sustainable Structures, Inc.Mattson’s Decorator Center and by Hallowell citizens Dick Davies and Susan MacPherson.

The exhibition includes a display of work by the late Paul Plumer, honoring his memory.  Plumer died just over a year ago, in May 2010. He was born in Augusta in 1936 and educated in Hallowell and Gardiner schools, graduating from Gardiner Area High School in 1956. He served in the Air Force until 1961. He studied art at Ecole Nationale Des Beaux Arts Et Des Arts Appliques, Nancy, France, followed by study at The Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles, now located in Pasadena, Calif.

He began working as a freelance illustrator in Los Angeles, where he produced work for ABC television. He returned to Maine in 1963 and worked for Ad-Media Inc. in Augusta until 1965, when he started his own commercial art and illustration studio in a barn adjacent to his home. For more than 40 years, he worked in watercolors, oils, drawings, architectural renderings, sculpting and woodcarving.  He is missed and remembered fondly by his many friends and neighbors in Hallowell.

Exhibitions at the Harlow Gallery have been made possible by our season sponsors, The Bank of Maine, Dead River Company, Kennebec Savings Bank and by the Quimby Family Foundation.

The Harlow Gallery connects and celebrates art, artists and community.
