Written on September 30th, 2011 by George L. Tibbetts Jr.no shouts

Gather Up the Fragments: The Andrews Shaker Collection tells the story of the first and most avid collectors of the Shaker art, Faith and Edward Deming Andrews. From the 1920s through the 1960s, the Andrews actively pursued Shaker objects, collecting mainly from the Shakers themselves. Through careful documentation and scholarship, the Andrews illuminated these materials and their collection has bequeathed to future generations the most comprehensive body of evidence on the culture of the United Society of Believers. The exhibition, comprised of more than 200 objects, is the most comprehensive collection of Shaker materials ever assembled and will feature the work of Shaker communities in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York.

Written on September 30th, 2011 by George L. Tibbetts Jr.no shouts

I must say that I was pretty upset yesterday when I sent my carpenter out to buy seven advance tickets in an effort to save some friends of mine coming to town a few bucks while introducing them to my new shop, great area bands, and Gardiner’s retail community. Off he went with my $70 check only to return for an additional $7. There are actually eleven dollars, he said. “) ^(%%*)”, I said in disbelief.

Written on September 30th, 2011 by George L. Tibbetts Jr.no shouts

The blues can be defined in a limitless number of ways, but it will forever be the soul’s measurement of self-expression and self-healing. Where mere words cannot articulate, and movement is incomplete, music bridges the chasm. Francine Reed’s new album, SHADES OF BLUE, is the language of human spirit distilled through a voice of radiance. Known to most of the world as Lyle Lovett’s duet and back-up vocalist, this Chicago-born songstress has been singing professionally since she was a child in her family’s gospel group.

The Prodigals at The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor on October 8th

Written on September 29th, 2011 by George L. Tibbetts Jr.no shouts

It’s no secret by now that Irish music and punk rock get along surprisingly well. Bands ranging from the Pogues to Boston’s Dropkick Murphys have combined fiery Irish tunes with the volume and bluster of punk. The New York based quartet The Prodigals take that a step further. They have a raucous punk-inspired sound but also incorporate drum-and-bass rhythms from modern dance music and hip-hop. And they do it with a strong respect for Irish roots and a repertoire of mostly traditional tunes.
