Augusta resident and naturopathic practitioner Christopher Maloney has written a children’s book about Lithgow Public Library’s colorful history titled Two Pennies: A Living History Mystery. He is donating a portion of book sales to the capital campaign to expand and renovate the historic library. Maloney partnered on the project with his 100-year-old grandfather, Roy LeRoy, whose eventful life inspired him to take the plunge into writing. The amateur detectives in Two Pennies are loosely modeled on classmates of his older son, Atticus, and the lively illustrations are the work of 12-year-old artist Tessa Gervais, another classmate.
How we work – Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) is a non-profit organization. We are not a facility but an adoption service. We choose cats and dogs , spay or neuter them and try to get them into foster care or permanent adoptions. No dog becomes a FOHA dog unless we feel that it will make a great pet. These animals can be seen on our website or at our Saturday adoption sites..

Maine state government’s credit rating is an important tool to attract jobs. Our credit score is a visible measurement of Maine’s fiscal and economic health. Businesses choose to invest their money in states where government can pay its bills, and taxes and regulations are fair and predictable. Otherwise, employers rightly fear that their companies and workers will likely pay higher taxes to fund unaffordable programs, or their public services will be cut.
On view through February 5 “These are not works of art; they are representatives of a life intended to be lived in faith that the universe had a purpose and that people had a place in it, an art of living.” – The Portland Phoenix

Son is the most popular style to come out of Cuba and is the primary contributor to the blend of Latin styles today known as Salsa. It was first a music of the country people and eventually migrated to Havana, where it was urbanized and began to draw a wider audience.

Lewiston Public Library has contributed 115 images to Maine Memory to date. The images shared by LPL are particularly rich in two eras: the turn of the 20th century when the mills and city hummed, and the 1970s, by which time many mills were idle and the health of the Androscoggin River was of increasing concern. It was during this latter period that the groundwork for the city’s rebirth was laid. To view all of the images from Lewiston Public Library, click here.
