(Portland, ME) – Joan Jet and Avril Levine didn’t play with dolls, they played with guitars…because GIRLS ROCK! To prove it, The Maine Academy of Modern Music (MAMM) is hosting a “GIRLS ROCK” concert February 3rd at Bayside Bowl from 6pm-9pm to showcase their female rock students with performances by Emilia Dahlin, The OxyMorons and Lady & The Tramps.
“We’re excited to show the talents of our female students. Rock music is so male-centric, we created ‘Girls Rock’ to show that girls can rock just as hard as boys,” explains Jeff Shaw, executive director and founder of MAMM.
Headliner Dahlin wields a voice that defies the size of her body, coupled with her strong storytelling sensibilities, she is known as a very unique songwriter. Dahlin weaves with a historian’s imagination and a troubadour’s artistry for an American original sound that touches the relish of vintage jazz, the tang of a Tom Waitsian waltz and the somber grit of a low tide lullaby. Since 2007, the Maine Academy of Modern Music has been providing music lessons, venues and networks to help musicians navigate the world of rock. Students of all ages and abilities are introduced to innovative and inclusive music programs that promote resiliency, self-expression, creativity and determination.
