Kids Open Studios: Free For All Watercolor Workshop

Saturday 02.18.2012, Starts at 1:00 PM, Ends at 4:00 PM, $5 studio fee/$3 for SPACE members, All Ages

Kids ages 6 and up are invited to use our current gallery exhibit, Free For All, as inspiration to create sketches and original watercolor paintings. Free For All is a salon style exhibit featuring work by emerging and established artists in a variety of subject, medium, style and form.
Led by local arts educator Ashley Shoukimas, this workshop uses the timeless model of museum sketching to encourage kids to identify an artist’s work they like, sketch ideas based on the piece, and then create an original watercolor painting. Using viewfinders, kids will be able to focus on a whole piece, or just an element of the piece, and will learn different techniques of observation and appreciation.

48 Hour Music Festival 4

Saturday 02.18.2012, Doors at 8:30 PM, Starts at 9:00 PM, $10, 18+

Purchase tickets here or at all Bull Moose locations.

The 4th Annual 48 Hour Music Festival is here! Thirty adventurous artists from different Portland bands of all genres agree to step out of their comfort zones and be randomly shuffled into 6 supergroups, announced on Thursday afternoon. No members of these newly formed bands are allowed to have previous musical history with one another. From there, each band has exactly 48 hours to construct and practice a 25 minute set of material, culminating in the Saturday performance. This entirely new pool of local talent, featuring members of Isobell, Marie Stella, The Coalsack In Crux, The Heebee-Jeebees, Heavy Breathing and Waranimal- as well as Sean Morin, Sam James and Kate Cox – will be tested by a need for teamwork and a couple of sleepless nights. Each year, the 48 Hour Music Fest has proven to be one of the most exciting and creative nights of the year and a sold-out show so buy your tickets in advance! Sponsored by D.L. Geary Brewing Co.
