The Artist did better in weekend number two than its opening weekend. That tells me that word of mouth is kicking in and those of you who have seen and loved it (the vast majority) are telling those who haven’t yet made the journey. So The Artist IS going for at least one more week. Remember, I have been saying all along that I believe it will win the Best Picture Oscar.

The Sweet Love open mic is particular special in that it is one of the very unique open mics that is available to all age groups. Since Sweet Love is not a bar, youthful musicians use this open mic as an opportunity to learn and hone new skills. A friend of mine who frequents this open mic said he was amazed at the amount of young talent that showed up and the interaction between them and some of the older players who come along.

We have a duo at the Mad Dog featuring Averill and Ralph Loveley on guitar and banjo playing hillbilly swing and traditional jazz. As Averill says, “The only thing better than swing is swing that’s had some of its polish rubbed off, been run through the blues mill, been driven down a country road, and rolled around in the bluegrass. When you’re done, you have a product that fairly well defies all reason and sensibility, but somehow it works.”
