Although he is often called a jazz pianist, Glasper refuses to be limited by genre. The Los Angeles Times once wrote that “it’s a short list of jazz pianists who have the wherewithal to drop a J Dilla reference into a Thelonious Monk cover, but not many jazz pianists are Robert Glasper,” adding that “he’s equally comfortable in the worlds of hip-hop and jazz.”

Local Muscle is sponsoring a film festival! For Valentines day! Why would a moving company sponsor a film festival, you ask? We’re Local Muscle, don’t you know us at this point?! We’re putting up $600 in cash prizes and the festival is open to anyone. We ask that the films be no more than 6 min. and romance related (it being Valentines and all). They don’t, however, have to be romances.

Mr. Lopez has been an advocate for music education for many years and is a popular lecturer on the arts in New England. He has given lectures for the European Piano Teachers Association in Amsterdam. He maintains active studios in New Hampshire at Phillips Exeter Academy and St. Paul’s School, having graduated several students to major conservatories in the U.S. including Juilliard Prep, Oberlin College, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes College, and the University of Southern California.

Formed in the spring of 1990, The Irish Descendants, have been a mainstay in the Newfoundland and Canadian music industry for over two decades. In that time the band has performed over 4000 shows across North America and beyond! With the founding members all hailing from various outpost fishing communities, the original goal for the group was to take the music that they all learned and performed home in their kitchens, to the festival stages, pubs, and concert halls of their beloved Newfoundland.

Spectrum Generations Cohen Community Center and AARP will offer a Safety Driver Course on Monday, February 13, 2012 from 10:00AM to 3:00PM with a snow date set for Friday, February 17th. This program is a refresher course for drivers age 55 and older. Those completing the program will receive a Certificate of Completion which may offer participants a discount on their auto insurance

News from the Waterville Opera House as of February 3, 2012

Everyone at the Opera House is excited to be nearing the end of renovations. Most notably, construction has begun on the exterior of the building for the creation of the new wing. The new wing will house the new restrooms and dressing rooms, as well as provide ADA access from the lobby to the stage. If you haven’t seen the construction lately, check out the photos in theBehind the Curtain… section.
