Ten of Maine’s fine art photographers will be strutting their stuff through March 19 in SINGULAR, opening Saturday at the Palmina S. and Stephen F. Pace Galleries of Art at Fryeburg Academy Performing Arts Center in Fryeburg, Maine.

Evelyn Dunphy Studio & Gallery Announces "Introduction to Watercolor Workshop" in March

Dunphy’s work has been exhibited and received awards in many national and international exhibitions, including the National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club, New York. She was the first “Visiting Artist” in Baxter State Park, and the first artist to receive the National Resource Council’s
“People’s Choice” award for her contribution to conservation in Maine.

Information on The Altered Book Workshop at the Harlow Gallery February 4, 2012

What is an altered book? An altered book is a form of mixed media artwork that changes a book from its original form by altering its appearance and meaning, resulting in a unique work of art. On Sunday, February 4 from 1-4 pm at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell, instructor Margo Ogden will teach a workshop on creating Altered Books.

Martha Miller teaches drawing at Maine College of Art and at The Farnsworth Art Museum. She is now also teaching private art classes in her spacious new studio in downtown Bath, Maine. I am available for commissioned portraiture by appointment.

Call for Artists to Enter Art2012 at The Harlow Gallery

The Kennebec Valley Art Association invites artist submissions to Art2012, 17th annual juried show at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell. Art2012 is open to all Maine artists and to any artist with a strong connection to Maine. Original fine art in any media may be submitted, including hand pulled prints, photography and sculpture and fine crafts, including ceramics, glass and fiberart. Jewelery and clothing are not eligible.

The Union of Maine Visual Artists has issued a state-wide call for artists to come to a Draw-A-Thon in support of the Occupy movement. Join us for a Draw-A-Thon on Saturday, January 21st *, from 10-4, at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell, where we will gather as a friendly group of artists to continue our ongoing efforts to draw and create around issues. You need not have any experience creating political art and in fact much of the work created is often of a non political nature as our mission is to visualize alternatives to destructive practices.

"A River Lost and Found: the Androscoggin River in Time and Place" by Michael Kolster at the Harlow January 19

Kolster’s work explores how we perceive, depict, and come to understand the changing nature of riverways as they recover from a century of industrial pollution. Kolster is a photographer who lives in Brunswick and teaches at Bowdoin College. He utilizes various photographic techniques and tools including antebellum wet-plate collodion process, B & W film negatives and digitial processes. This event is being presented by the Maine Traditional Film Photographers Group, which meets monthly at the Harlow Gallery.

Harlow Gallery Has Issued a Call for Artists and CSA Farmers

Maine’s artist and farming communities are vibrant, idealistic groups, both key to our state’s unique sense of place. We believe that that artists can use the power of their artistic voices to effect social change. The premise of this project is simple; we’ll be connecting ten Maine artists with ten CSA farmers in central Maine (within roughly 30-40 miles of Augusta), and asking them to get to know each other well over the course of the 2012 growing season. The ten selected artists will create art inspired by their farmers’ lives, work, landscapes, challenges and ideals.

Tireless Device: A Living Paper Dress at Space Gallery January 12th

Tireless device, a work in progress by Maria Paz Garaloces, brings together a number of different media, such as sculpture, installation, performance and design, which are merged together to create a fictional scene that focuses on aspects of beauty, drama, obsession and imagination. It is a multidimensional piece that explores the relationship between body and object and the object in action.

Kennebec Valley Art Association Seeks Donations for Scholarship Fund

The Kennebec Valley Art Association is requesting donations be made to the Maine Community Foundation to support a scholarship for a graduating senior from Hall-Dale High School in 2012. In 2010 The Kennebec Valley Art Association turned their restricted scholarship funds over the the Maine Community Foundation.
