The Harlow Gallery has been owned and operated by the Kennebec Valley Art Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit membership based organization that has been supporting the arts and artists of central Maine for over half a century. An exhibition committee will meets in October to determine the Harlow’s exhibition schedule for the upcoming year. Proposals must be received at the Harlow Gallery at 160 Water Street in Hallowell on or before April 1, 2012.
Applications are now being accepted by the Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce for the 25th Annual Winthrop Sidewalk Art Festival to be held (rain or shine) on Saturday, August 18, 2011, from 10 am to 4 pm in downtown Winthrop. Known as one of the best art festivals in Maine, the event features many high-quality artists and draws attendees from throughout the region.

David is a bliographer in the MoMA Library and curator of Millennium Magazines. He curated the exhibition “Access to Tools: Publications from the Whole Earth Catalog, 1968-1974.” The exhibition brought together ideas about networks created by books to form an offbeat historical cocktail of hippies and early computers, cybernetics and geodesic domes. The show utilized the Whole Earth Catalog to source books from the MoMA library collection and complemented these holdings by shopping around the used book world to fill in the gaps.

Each year the Kennebec Valley Art Association invites art teachers from elementary and middle schools from throughout the greater Augusta area to select their best student art to showcase in this wonderful celebration of young artists.

Now through March 10, 2012 we will be holding our 6th annual exhibition of artwork by area high school students. Higher Forms of Art. This exhibition is meant give young artists an opportunity to show their work in a professional space, and to get a taste of what goes into organizing a professional art exhibit. Students from six area high schools, including Cony, Hall-Dale, Kents Hill, Maranancook, Monmouth and Richmond participated in hanging the exhibition and planning and organizing the opening night and provide food and entertainment for the opening.
The Kennebec Valley Art Association invites artist submissions to Art2012, 17th annual juried show at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell. Art2012 is open to all Maine artists and to any artist with a strong connection to Maine. Original fine art in any media may be submitted, including hand pulled prints, photography and sculpture and fine crafts, including ceramics, glass and fiberart. Jewelery and clothing are not eligible.
SpinOff Studio and Spindleworks are teaming up with Harlow Gallery to create an exciting series called Lunch with an Artist. Please join us for lunch with Scott Minzy on February 22nd noon to 1 pm at SpinOff Studio, located at 184 Water Street in Hallowell.. You can bring your lunch or stop by Slates Bakery across the street. This is a great opportunity to get inspired and get to know your local artists while on your lunch break.
Thursday 4:00pm until 8:00pm Join us for a mid-winter Art Walk in downtown Augusta! Come check out the work of 30+ artists from all over Maine on display in businesses up and down Water Street.
Please visit the office building at 45 Memorial Circle in Augusta to view work by artist Paul Philbrick of Belgrade, Maine. Philbrick’s work is on display in the former ATM space viewable from outside the building from 9am to 9pm daily. The exhibition is on view now through March 15, 2012, and is sponsored by the Kennebec Valley Art Association.
In celebration of Youth Art Month the Kennebec Valley Art Association will present an exhibition of artwork by students from seven area high schools, including Cony, Gardiner, Hall-Dale, Kents Hill, Maranacook, Monmouth and Readfield. The exhibition will be on view March 2-10 at the Harlow Gallery at 160 Water Street in Hallowell.
The Harlow Gallery is owned and operated by the Kennebec Valley Art Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit; all proceeds go to support programming and operating expenses for the gallery. Donations of art, framed or unframed is most welcome and is tax deductible according to current tax law. You don’t even have to be an artist to donate, make room for new art by donating something from your collection!
Ten of Maine’s fine art photographers will be strutting their stuff through March 19 in SINGULAR, opening Saturday at the Palmina S. and Stephen F. Pace Galleries of Art at Fryeburg Academy Performing Arts Center in Fryeburg, Maine.
Hallowell Artist Hélène Farrar will share her new studio space and business “Hélène Farrar Art” to coincide with her artist reception for “Collections” at Slates Restaurant. Located only a half block north of Slates, visitors have the unique opportunity to see the artist’s working studio as well have a viewing her works at Slates Restaurant.
