On January 1st, we started a program called A Year of Reading. Anyone and everyone – of any age – with a valid Gardiner Public Library card is eligible to join. Each month we will have a different reading theme that will be sponsored by a local area business. Read a book or watch a movie that pertains to that theme and be entered for a prize drawing at the end of the month. Come in and join the fun!
David Gomeau, a former Augusta city councilor turned photographer, is exhibiting his nature photographs at Augusta City Center during the months of February and March, with a portion of the sales going to the capital campaign to expand and renovate Lithgow Public Library. Gomeau’s photographs capture the natural beauty of Maine, including landscapes, flowers and wildlife in all seasons.
Lithgow Public Library’s popular Cabin Fever Crafts series is back, with fun opportunities to get out of the house and get creative. The series is being held on the fourth Thursday of the month from 1-2 p.m. during February and March. The programs are free and open to the public. Children ages 10 and up are welcome with adult supervision, and no sign-up is necessary.
Thanks to Emily Schroeder, reference librarian at the State Library, for compiling this list of resources, thanks to Earle G. Shettleworth, Jr. for writing the introduction, and thanks to the Maine State Archives for sharing photos from their collection.
