Destroyed in a dramatic and highly-publicized implosion, the Pruitt-Igoe public housing complex has become a widespread symbol of failure amongst architects, politicians and policy makers. The Pruitt-Igoe Myth explores the social, economic and legislative issues that led to the decline of conventional public housing in America, and the city centers in which they resided, while tracing the personal and poignant narratives of several of the project’s residents.
Is it just us or did September fly by with incredible speed? We’ve been so busy welcoming kids to our space with the new school year underway, planning great events like Slant and a November Open House, and scheming about the future that we seemed to go from those last warm days of Summer to the crisp colors of fall overnight. Though after this weekend’s heat wave, we’re disoriented once again. I guess we’ll just stick to what we know best – finding, nurturing, and publishing the most compelling stories Portland youth have to offer – and let the meterologists, calendar-creators, and others worry about the details.
