The public is invited to visit the lobby gallery at 45 Memorial Circle in Augusta to enjoy artwork by Cony High School Independent Study Art Students Colton Brann, Kelly Clark, Charlie Eames, Marissa Eldridge, Erin Ludwig, Chantel Wellman, Talisan Greaton, Jon Caron and Sabrina Poulin from now through July 7, 2012. The exhibition, in the former ATM lobby of the 45 Memorial Circle (also known as the “Preti-Flaherty building), is viewable from outside the building from 9am to 9pm daily. Sponsored by the Kennebec Valley Art Association.
Preserve Maine Traditions will present a panel discussion on Wednesday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Lithgow Public Library in Augusta. Preserve Maine Traditions is a citizens group committed to preserving Maine’s cultural heritage and land use traditions, working to ensure the continued respect between landowners and the public.
Lithgow Public Library will host two events on May 23 and 24. On Wednesday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m., Milton Huntington will talk about his new book, A Lifetime of Laughter as part of Lithgow Library’s “Maine Authors in May” series. Huntington returns readers to the good old days of yesteryear as he reminisces about Augusta in days gone by, close encounters with celebrities and politicians, hunting and fishing yarns, and assorted humorous tales.
The Casco Bay Tummlers, from Portland, Maine, have been performing klezmer music since 1988. They have released three recordings and were also featured performers on the LL Bean Holiday CD. In 1999 they created and performed the music for the world premiere of “Manifest” at Portland Stage Company. The Tummlers have a unique sound and a stage performance that features all members of the band. Steve Gruverman brings an extensive background in ethnic dance music to his soulful clarinet playing. Carl Dimow has developed a unique klezmer flute style, making the instrument an equal solo voice in the music.
Lithgow Public Library will host two events on May 9 and 10. On Wednesday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m., Earl Smith will do a reading from his new comic mystery, The Dam Committee as part of the library’s “Maine Authors in May” series. The former dean of Colby College writes affectionately about the foibles of life in the fictitious village of Belfry, a summer resort nestled between two lakes separated by a dam. Area residents may recognize an uncanny resemblance to Smith’s hometown of Belgrade Lakes.
On April 27th at 6:30 pm, poets David Moreau, Claire Hersom, Jeannie Scudder, Jennifer Tripp and Russell Libby will read poems round-robin style in the Arboretum’s West Room. Dispersed throughout the evening of poetry, guitarist, Patrick Shepard and several guest vocalists will perform songs by Lyle Lovett, Nora Jones, Keb Mo, John Meyer and others. The evening is free to the public and refreshments will be served.
AUGUSTA, ME – Natural Resources Council of Maine, the state’s leading environmental advocacy organization, will host a media event to commemorate its installation of a new solar energy system. The event will tie in with the celebration of Earth Day, observed on April 22.
For the past eighteen months, Governor Paul LePage has been focused on promoting and supporting legislation that will help Maine’s job creators expand and succeed, and invest in providing good jobs for Mainers. On Wednesday he will sign three bills, passed during the second session of the 125th Legislature, which focus on revitalizing the Maine economy.

Author Jamie Ford’s appearance at Lithgow Public Library on Wednesday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. is the culmination of a month-long series of events in Lithgow’s popular A Capital Read community reading program. This year marks the return of the much-anticipated event — sponsored by the Friends of Lithgow Public Library with support from Lucky Garden Restaurant — following budget cuts the past two years. The programs revolving around Ford’s best-selling novel, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, have included music, crafts, book groups and informative discussions.
