In Bath, our wrestlers will don inflatable Sumo suits for the occasion. Join the fun and cheer on our local celebrities who are sharing their talents in this fund raising event! Between matches, Bowdoin Taiko will entertain! Bowdoin Taiko is an ensemble group which uses huge Japanese drums, and combines music, rhythm, and dance into a stunning audio-visual spectacle. Donations accepted.
Last night we released our new video produced as part of Main Street Bath’s submission to win a 2012 Great American Maine Street Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Bath is one of 10 semifinalists, and in our bid to make the final cut we have spent the past few months collecting over 30 letters of support… and creating a video that is essentially a love letter to our downtown and the City of Bath.
Dunphy’s work has been exhibited and received awards in many national and international exhibitions, including the National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club, New York. She was the first “Visiting Artist” in Baxter State Park, and the first artist to receive the National Resource Council’s
“People’s Choice” award for her contribution to conservation in Maine.
At Main Street Bath, we’ve been working to finalize our schedule of events for the coming year. Our next downtown event will be Bath Blarney Days, March 10-17, when we will celebrate the greening of Bath and winters end. The luck of the Irish has been with us in the past few years bringing fine weather for this event, so be sure to mark your calendars and stay tuned for details as the date approaches.In the meantime, enjoy Bath’s many winter activities. And as Valentines Day approaches, don’t forget to love your Downtown and shop locally!
The Holmes Brothers appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, The CBS Saturday Early Show, as well as National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition, A Prairie Home Companion and Mountain Stage. Greg Kot of The Chicago Tribune called it a “joyous, foot-stomping carnival…a gift to the world of music.”
Sagadahoc Preservation, Inc. will present a program by Jon Brandon, owner of East Point Conservation Studio in Brunswick, on Sunday, January 22nd at 4 P.M. at the Winter Street Center, 880 Washington Street in Bath. His talk will cover some of the most interesting pieces of furniture that his studio has conserved, highlighting the best that Maine cabinetmakers have produced as well as remarkable pieces “from away” that are now in Maine, both antique and modern.

Here we are in January and strange weather. Come to the Bath Farmers Market Saturday morning at the UCC on Congress Avenue, and feel the familiar warmth from 9-12. We still have wonderfully fresh produce, glowing in the soft light of midwinter, lots of fresh baked goods, meats, and artisanal items.
Martha Miller teaches drawing at Maine College of Art and at The Farnsworth Art Museum. She is now also teaching private art classes in her spacious new studio in downtown Bath, Maine. I am available for commissioned portraiture by appointment.

Happy New Year! 2012 has arrived and snow is on its way here in Maine. Luckily Bath still has lots going on to keep you warm and active during the next few months, between concerts at the Chocolate Church, movies at the Dreamland Theater, and wonderful year-round shopping in our downtown. And after a day of hiking the Whiskeag Trail or skating on Goddard Pond, it’s nice to warm up with a hot drink at one of Bath’s downtown restaraunts.
The Bath Historical Society 2012 calendar is now available. Filled with historic photographs of Bath and facts about people and events in the storied past of the City of Ships, the calendar costs just $12. You can buy one at the History Room on the second floor of the Patten Free Library during its hours on Tuesdays through Fridays, from 12:30 to 4:00 P.M., and on Saturday, from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. or at the Circulation Desk on the first floor. Calendars are also available downtown at Bath Book Shop, Brick Store Antiques, Lisa-Marie’s Made in Maine, Main Street Bath, Now You’re Cooking, Ornament and the Library Bookstore.
Fast away the old year passes! Before the year ends, we need your help to meet our 2011 annual campaign goal. So if you haven’t donated yet, and you love downtown Bath’s holiday decorations, summer flowers, year-round events and bustling shops and restaurants, please help us in our mission to keep downtown Bath on the upswing.
It’s hard to believe that there are only 10 days left before Christmas, and Hanukah begins next Tuesday! For the unready, on Friday evening downtown Bath will hold their 3rd annual Holiday Open House, when shops stay open until 8pm with a diverse selection of one-of-a-kind gifts.
