Gilchrist was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. Daughter to an Irish mother and Scottish father she grew up immersed in traditional folk music. At an early age Maeve was accepted into the City of Edinburgh Music School where she spent seven years studying classical piano, clarsach (Celtic harp) and vocals. From her early teens, Maeve was an in-demand member on the traditional music scene in Scotland where she performed at events such as the opening of the Scottish Parliament, the Celtic Connections Festival and the International Edinburgh Harp Festival.

My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown is a 1989 drama film directed by Jim Sheridan and starring Daniel Day-Lewis. It tells the true story of Christy Brown, anIrishman born with cerebral palsy, who could control only his left foot. Christy Brown grew up in a poor, working class family, and became a writer and artist. The film also stars Ray McAnally, Brenda Fricker, Fiona Shaw, Julie Hale, Alison Whelan, Kirsten Sheridan, Declan Croghan, Eanna MacLiam, Marie Conmee, and Cyril Cusack. It was adapted by Shane Connaughton and Jim Sheridan from the book of the same name by Christy Brown.[2
Can you hear the pipes? Downtown Bath is winding up for Bath Blarney Days, March 11-17th. We’ll be celebrating the greening of spring with all things Irish including a “More than Blarney” cultural evening, Shamrock Sprint 5K, Tug o’ War, Irish Soda Bread baking contest, St. Patick’s Day parade and various other shenanigans
Directed by April Joy Purinton, this farcical comedy focuses on Prudence (Christina Boyington) and Bruce (Marc Rodriguez), two Manhattanites who are seeking stable romantic relationships with the help of their psychiatrists, each of whom suggests the patient place a personal ad. Their first meeting proves to be disastrous. Bruce is a highly emotional bisexual who has a live-in lover, Bob (Bretton Harris) and tends to cry easily, a trait homophobic Prudence sees as a weakness.
This month we released a new video, which is essentially a love letter to our downtown and the City of Bath. The video is part of Main Street Bath’s submission to win a 2012 Great American Maine Street Award, and has received over 2,200 Youtube views since it was published on February 2nd. In Bath, our wrestlers will don inflatable Sumo suits for the occasion. Join the fun and cheer on our local celebrities who are sharing their talents in this fund raising event! Between matches, Bowdoin Taiko will entertain! Bowdoin Taiko is an ensemble group which uses huge Japanese drums, and combines music, rhythm, and dance into a stunning audio-visual spectacle. Donations accepted.
Last night we released our new video produced as part of Main Street Bath’s submission to win a 2012 Great American Maine Street Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Bath is one of 10 semifinalists, and in our bid to make the final cut we have spent the past few months collecting over 30 letters of support… and creating a video that is essentially a love letter to our downtown and the City of Bath.
Dunphy’s work has been exhibited and received awards in many national and international exhibitions, including the National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club, New York. She was the first “Visiting Artist” in Baxter State Park, and the first artist to receive the National Resource Council’s
“People’s Choice” award for her contribution to conservation in Maine.
At Main Street Bath, we’ve been working to finalize our schedule of events for the coming year. Our next downtown event will be Bath Blarney Days, March 10-17, when we will celebrate the greening of Bath and winters end. The luck of the Irish has been with us in the past few years bringing fine weather for this event, so be sure to mark your calendars and stay tuned for details as the date approaches.In the meantime, enjoy Bath’s many winter activities. The Holmes Brothers appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, The CBS Saturday Early Show, as well as National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition, A Prairie Home Companion and Mountain Stage. Greg Kot of The Chicago Tribune called it a “joyous, foot-stomping carnival…a gift to the world of music.”
Sagadahoc Preservation, Inc. will present a program by Jon Brandon, owner of East Point Conservation Studio in Brunswick, on Sunday, January 22nd at 4 P.M. at the Winter Street Center, 880 Washington Street in Bath. His talk will cover some of the most interesting pieces of furniture that his studio has conserved, highlighting the best that Maine cabinetmakers have produced as well as remarkable pieces “from away” that are now in Maine, both antique and modern.
