Asleep at the Wheel, the famed western-swing, boogie, and roots-music outfit that’s, amazingly, still on the upswing. That’s saying something, too, considering the group’s been around for nearly 40 years, turning out an incredible 25+ albums while playing an unrelenting schedule of one-nighters that would make a vaudevillian dizzy. The Nine time Grammy winning Kings of Texas Swing.

It’s no secret by now that Irish music and punk rock get along surprisingly well. Bands ranging from the Pogues to Boston’s Dropkick Murphys have combined fiery Irish tunes with the volume and bluster of punk. The New York based quartet The Prodigals take that a step further. They have a raucous punk-inspired sound but also incorporate drum-and-bass rhythms from modern dance music and hip-hop. And they do it with a strong respect for Irish roots and a repertoire of mostly traditional tunes.

These 5 hard-touring, fun loving musicians spend over 200 days a year on the road, bringing audiences to their feet with their original interpretations of Celtic classics and well-crafted originals. Join us for a night of Raggae. Mighty Mystic can be described as a charismatic man on a mission; he’s gone from being a fan of Reggae to a contributor of the art. The Boston Globe says “If there is such a thing as a folk star, this guy merits the title. Whether performing a heartfelt ballad, singing a down-to-earth blues tune, or weaving an onstage story with strands of humor and wisdom, Rush has been winning audiences over since the 1960s.”
Grammy winning pianist Paul Sullivan joins us this summer, accompanied by vocalist Theresa Thomason. Both perform regularly as members of the internationally touring Paul Winter Consort but this is one of the few shows they perform as a duo. In fact, their very first appearance as a duo was on the Opera House stage in 2010. We welcome back this amazing pair for an evening of original music, jazz, blues, gospel and more.
It has always seemed as if there were two Cheryl Wheelers, with fans of the New England songwriter relishing watching the two tussle for control of the mic. There is poet-Cheryl, writer of some of the prettiest, most alluring and intelligent ballads on the modern folk scene. And there is her evil twin, comic-Cheryl, a militant trend defier and savagely funny social critic.
