Dear Friends of CIFF, We hope you all are enjoying the beginning of the new year. Here at CIFF we’ve already begun the planning process for the 2012 Festival and we hope you’ll save the dates. The 8th Annual Camden International Film Festival and Points North Forum will take place from September 27 – 30, 2012 at a number of venues throughout Camden and Rockland, Maine. Passes will go on sale July 1

THE RED MACHINE, directed by Stephanie Argy and Alec Boehm, is a caper adventure set in Washington DC, 1935. At the height of the Great Depression, a cool-as-ice Navy spy (Lee Perkins) is ordered to work with a professional thief (Donal Thoms-Cappello) to pull off the heist of a lifetime. The Japanese military has changed the codes it uses for secret messages, with potentially devastating results for the U.S., and a prominent Japanese diplomat holds the key in the form of a mysterious new machine.

Midcoast Magnet Update for January 2012

The first Real Life, Real People, Real Social “REAL” event is being hosted and co-sponsored by The Village at Rockport on Thursday, January 19th, from 5:30pm – 8pm. Maine Senator Chris Rector will be speaking at 6:00 pm and there will be wine and gourmet hors d’oeuvres throughout the evening. The Village at Rockport will also have door prizes. They include a weekend at The Village at Rockport Condominium, Shepherd’s Pie, and State of Maine Cheese.

2011 was a remarkable year for our festival. And now that the dust has finally settled, we’d like to give a heartfelt thanks to all the filmmakers, industry, sponsors, contributors, volunteers and most importantly audience members who made this year’s Camden International Film Festival so darn special. Thank you. We appreciate your commitment to our organization and we are constantly amazed at the level of support we receive year after year. We could not do this without you.

Maine Filmakers to Meet at Juice 3.0 Conference in Camden on November 5th

This coming Saturday, November 5, 2011, 10:15AM- 1:15PM the Maine Film & Video Association (MFVA) is holding a panel discussion in collaboration with the JUICE 3.0 conference titled: “Building the Next Community Media Portal — Social Media for Social Good”. Highlighting the panel will be Rockland’s Ben Levine, a Juice Keynote Speaker, who with the Passamaquoddy people has developed an internet tool that uses documentary film and an interactive dictionary to help save their dying language.

Fall Benefit Concert in Support of HOPE ELEPHANTS to be Held on November 12th at The Camden Opera House

Fall Benefit Concert in Support of HOPE ELEPHANTS Performances by several Maine-based artists including pianist Paul Sullivan, singer and pianist Gintare – music by Swing Shift featuring Gary Clancy, and humor by The Humble Farmer. Master of Ceremonies is Slim Boodbody (aka John Burstein). There will also be a silent auction with items on view prior to the concert and silent auction and cash bar during intermission. Silent Auction viewing begins at 6 PM. Auditorium Doors will open at 6:30 PM. TICKETS ON SALE BEGINNING THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27.

Comedian Bob Marley at The Camden Opera House on November 6th

Originally from Maine, Bob Marley began performing stand up comedy in his hometown of Portland. He moved to Boston early in his career, gaining experience in a city known for spawning comedy all-stars. He now has a weekly radio call in segment with several radio stations around the country called The World According to Bob. Winner of last years XM/Sirius Superbowl of Comedy, he continually makes new fans around the country.
