On Thursday, May 17th, join us at the Strand Theatre for one of the years highest grossing docs, JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI, which Variety calls “Mouthwatering.” Co-presented by the Strand Theatre and Suzuki’s Sushi Bar, showtime is 7PM. We’re also extremely happy to announce that we’ll be bringing back one of our favorites from CIFF 2011. LOW AND CLEAR will be returning to Maine with screenings at Portland’s SPACE Gallery on May 18th and 20th, and North Haven and Rockland on May 19th! Director Kahlil Hudson will be in attendance for a Q&A at all screenings.

This Nabucco premiered at the St. Margarethen Austria, taking place amidst the intoxicating scenery of a rustically romantic Roman quarry. The Opera Festival St. Margarethen counts as one of Europe’s most important open-air festivals – over 200,000 opera lovers attend from all over the world annually. Nabucco tells the story of Nebuchadnezzar, ancient King of Babylon, who went mad after proclaiming himself God.
Forty years and several incarnations of the Jefferson Whatever later, the Airplane have long since retired into the rock history books. But Hot Tuna are still going strong. Jorma Kaukonen is no longer the razor thin rock guitar god he was way back when, and Jack Casady still does that funny thing with his eyebrows. But man, can these two guys can still play. With the addition of mandolin player extraordinaire ,Barry Mitterhoff, this version of Hot Tuna sounds as fine as ever.

It is first come first served. We encourage you to stay after to have more “chit chat” with the presenters at our after party at CMCA with wine/beer and appetizers.
