“Heelan plays with deliveries and genres, croons and belts, is political and isn’t, and largely creates enjoyable and interesting music… (MERCURY MUSIC) revels in variety and feels free-form and unconcerned with trying to fit any specific mold.” – Sam Pfeifle (the Portland Phoenix)

We’re all familiar with L.L. Bean, the Maine company behind those little, square catalogs that turn up in our mailboxes, full of Bean’s classic goods: Chamois Shirts, Boat and Tote Bags, and, of course, the classic Bean Boot.It was this famous footwear, first called the Maine Hunting Shoe, that started forty-year-old Leon Leonwood Bean on the path to fame and fortune in 1912, all because his feet got wet and sore after a long day of hunting in the Maine woods. Most of us have heard the familiar story of how he first sold 100 pairs of his new boot, 90 of which turned out to be defective.
The more Ryan heard of the sounds of the Fifties, Sixties, and Seventies, the more aware he became of the missing ingredients in contemporary music. “I’m into chords, melodies, lyrics, arrangements – I’m into music in all its aspects. It seems like the late Eighties were the last time we really had all these elements in Black music, with artists like Anita Baker and Luther Vandross. By the mid-Nineties, we were down to two chords and a drum loop.”

Mary is the oldest O’Leary child who has been taking care of her siblings since her mother passed away a couple of years earlier. The O’Leary children’s father Thaddeus O’Leary has been away in American trying to save enough money to send for his children so they can live a better life.

The Mallett Brothers Band is a brand new alt country outfit grown out of the seedy underbelly of Northern New England’s ripe and eclectic music scene. With one foot in the muckiest of American country/bluegrass/folk/mountain music and another on the pulse of today’s postmodern musical sensibility, The Mallett Brothers Band has drawn its members from a true witches’ brew of musical histories (including dabbles in punk rock, Americana, folk, funk, metal, hip hop and bluegrass), to create a truly dynamic sound consisting of two parts dreadnought acoustic, three parts soaring vocal harmonies, a touch of twang and howl, and a rhythm section made of steel and fire.
