It is with great pride that we call ourselves The PUBLIC Theatre. Our top ticket price of $18 and our Youth ticket of $5 for any child 18 and younger are proof that we are committed to making the theatre affordable and accessible for everyone. But the consequences of low ticket prices, means more fundraising, and, as this letter shows, we try to be inclusive and affordable even in our request for your support.
The Boston String Quartet releases the official schedule for the 2011 holiday season’s CELTIC CHRISTMAS EXTRAVANGANZA tour. Select churches and theatres across New England eagerly await the arrival of the quartet, and this year’s featured vocalist, Pan Morigan.
Visitors will have the opportunity to “meet” the youngest Washburn sibling, Caroline Washburn Holmes, who will tell you about her father’s home and her famous family. Kerck Kelsey, Washburn descendant and family historian, will share stories about what life was like for artist Cadwallader Lincoln Washburn, grand-son of Israel and Martha Washburn. Cadwallader’s etchings are on display in the dining room.
The 6th Maine Battery will fire their cannon, a Parrott Rifle. Battles commemorating the Spring 1861 campaign of the Civil War will be staged on both days in the early afternoon. Civil War musicians, temperance marchers and calvary units will give demonstrations. Saturday and Sunday, historian and author Kerck Kelsey will give talks about the Washburn brother’s roles in the Civil War. Kelsey’s book “Israel Washburn Jr.: Maine’s Little Known Giant of the Civil War” and other books by the author will be on sale.
A weekend of Civil War re-enactment events at the Washburn Norlands Living History Center will conclude with Maine’s only “Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Concert” on Sunday June 7 at 3 p.m. [...]
