Kennebec Performing Arts to Perform in Manchester on April 22, 2012

The Kennebec Performing Arts Company started as the Augusta Symphony Orchestra in 1920 under the direction of Ernest Hill, in order to provide musicians in the Kennebec area an opportunity to perform music, develop interest in choral music, the playing of woodwind, brass & percussion instruments and provide public service by presenting concerts and other performances.

This concert will include vocal selections by soloists and small groups as well as various instrumental offerings such as a trumpet solo, a tuba solo and a small jazz group. The concert will include a variety of music that showcases the many talents of our members. Come enjoy the evening with us and see the many talents within our organization while supporting the arts in your community.

The Band Apollo is an American Rock band from Central Maine. Self-described as the “Same guys, new sound”, The Band Apollo is the alternative project of The Jonathan Johnston Band. With a catchy blend of alternative rock, hip hop and acoustic juice, The Band Apollo is now raising funds to record in Nashville, TN with Grant Norsworthy (member of such bands as Sonic Flood, and Paul Colman Trio), and Darrell Lehman (Sound Engineer for Mute Math and The Newsboys). With Jonathan Johnston (lead vocals, guitars), Jonathan Truman (Drums, Keys), and Ben Pakcard (Lead Guitar) The Band Apollo is locked, loaded, and ready to rock.

Olympian Julia Clukey Announces Plans to host Summer Camp for Girls

Olympian Julia Clukey announced a partnership today with the Kennebec Valley YMCA to host a new 10 day summer camp in Maine starting in June 2012. Julia Clukey’s Camp for Girls at Camp KV will take place from June 20 – June 30, 2012 on Maranacook Lake in Readfield. The camp is designed for girls ages 8-11 as a place to develop self-confidence and a healthy lifestyle.
