As a solo artist and as the lead singer of The Babys and Bad English, John Waite was a fixture of album-oriented rock radio stations during the 70s and 80s. He had a talent for power ballads and driving arena rock, occasionally touching on new wave styled power pop as well. Several of Waite’s songs, including “Missing You,” The Babys’ “Isn’t It Time,” and Bad English’s “When I See You Smile” became radio staples.

Their extensive song list reflects the Beatles entire repertoire and career, from Twist and Shout to Sgt. Pepper to Abbey Road, including all orchestral arrangements, sound effects and even a real sitar! Ogunquit Playhouse founder Walter Hartwig was an integral part of the theatre culture of New York City throughout the early years of Broadway. He worked for legendary producers Daniel Frohman and David Belasco and dedicated himself to learning every aspect of show business. In 1920, he was appointed Executive Director of the New York Drama League. Through his work with the League, he founded the Little Theater Tournament in New York City, a very successful annual international competition for amateur theater groups which fostered and supported the Little Theater Movement (a national movement designed to promote theatre arts in rural communities).

The Ogunquit Playhouse is thrilled to announce that star of film, television and stage, the renowned Michelle Lee will headline in the East Coast Premiere of the new Roger Bean musical Summer of Love, on stage June 22 through July 16! Michele Lee has starred on Broadway, in feature and television films and recorded and performed with legends of the entertainment industry. Ms. Lee is known worldwide for her Emmy-nominated role as Karen Mackenzie in the landmark CBS series “Knots Landing.
The season opens when “Sesame Street meets South Park” in the Tony Award Best Musical of the Year, smash-hit, Avenue Q. This delightful parody that dares to ask the question, “What do you do with a B.A. in English?” is on stage May 25 to June 18. Winner of three Tony Awards including Best Musical, the show conveys life’s tough lessons through the trials and tribulations of Princeton, a recent college graduate, who is anxious to discover his purpose in life; but first, he must find an apartment and a job, with no work experience — but an English degree.
Film and television star Stefanie Powers and the Ogunquit Playhouse production of Sunset Boulevard leads with nine of those nominations. Stefanie Powers was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical for her powerful and critically acclaimed performance as Norma Desmond in Ogunquit’s premier production of Sunset Boulevard.
The Ogunquit Playhouse is thrilled to announce that it received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in American Theatre from the New England Theatre Conference at their 59th Annual Convention, held this fall in New Haven, Connecticut. Jeff Watts, NETC President, presented Executive Artistic Director, Bradford Kenney an award recognizing the Playhouse as one of the most important cultural landmarks in New England.
