The Ogunquit Playhouse is thrilled to announce that star of film, television and stage, the renowned Michelle Lee will headline in the East Coast Premiere of the new Roger Bean musical Summer of Love, on stage June 22 through July 16! Michele Lee has starred on Broadway, in feature and television films and recorded and performed with legends of the entertainment industry. Ms. Lee is known worldwide for her Emmy-nominated role as Karen Mackenzie in the landmark CBS series “Knots Landing.

The season opens when “Sesame Street meets South Park” in the Tony Award Best Musical of the Year, smash-hit, Avenue Q. This delightful parody that dares to ask the question, “What do you do with a B.A. in English?” is on stage May 25 to June 18. Winner of three Tony Awards including Best Musical, the show conveys life’s tough lessons through the trials and tribulations of Princeton, a recent college graduate, who is anxious to discover his purpose in life; but first, he must find an apartment and a job, with no work experience — but an English degree.

Film and television star Stefanie Powers and the Ogunquit Playhouse production of Sunset Boulevard leads with nine of those nominations. Stefanie Powers was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical for her powerful and critically acclaimed performance as Norma Desmond in Ogunquit’s premier production of Sunset Boulevard.

The Ogunquit Playhouse is thrilled to announce that it received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in American Theatre from the New England Theatre Conference at their 59th Annual Convention, held this fall in New Haven, Connecticut. Jeff Watts, NETC President, presented Executive Artistic Director, Bradford Kenney an award recognizing the Playhouse as one of the most important cultural landmarks in New England.

The classic tale of an aging toymaker and his puppet, Pinocchio, takes on timely issues in Disney My Son Pinocchio. An historian gives a brief overview of medieval England. In an apparent (and deliberate) miscommunication between the actors and the narrator, an idyllic Scandinavian village appears, with gaily dressed Finnish villagers singing and dancing to the “Fisch Schlapping Song.” The Historian returns, irritated, and tells the frolicking Finns that he was talking about England, not Finland.
