In association with Colby College’s Pugh Community Board, 3 films (when possible, screened in original 35mm prints!) by Spike Lee in anticipation of his Colby appearance: Wed. Feb. 8: CROOKLYN: Lee’s nostalgic yet utterly unsemtimental remniscence of growing up in Brooklyn in the early 70s features a pre-pubescent female protagonist, a charmingly low-key but emotionally compelling storyline and a toe-tapping soundtrack of vintage soul music. PG-13. 112 Min.

News from the Waterville Opera House as of February 3, 2012

Everyone at the Opera House is excited to be nearing the end of renovations. Most notably, construction has begun on the exterior of the building for the creation of the new wing. The new wing will house the new restrooms and dressing rooms, as well as provide ADA access from the lobby to the stage. Bill Ayers, political and children’s rights activist, and author of the autobiography “Fugitive Days,” will introduce Oscar nominee THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND in which he is a principal figure, and discuss activism then and now. In the ‘60s and 70s, Ayers’ committed stance led him to radical action; he was a fugitive from the law as a member of the Weathermen and Weather Underground, who sought to overthrow the government of the U.S.

Savvy Caregiver Program Announced for People Caring for Those with Alzheimers and Dementia

Due to its popularity, two sessions of the Savvy Caregiver Program are being offered at Spectrum Generations Muskie Center located at 38 Gold Street in Waterville. The dates for the first training are Mondays beginning January 23rd through March 5th from 1 to 3 in the afternoon. The second training will begin on March 19th and end on April 26th, also from 1 to 3 in the afternoon. There is no cost to attend.
