14 Hurt After Car Slams Into Arlington Pub, Sparks Fire – NBC4 Washington

Fourteen people were injured when a car crashed into an Irish pub, causing the building to catch fire in the Courthouse neighborhood of Arlington on Friday night.

Doctors took eight people to hospitals, and four of them were seriously injured, the Arlington County Police Department in Virginia said. The other four patients have injuries that are not life-threatening, according to police. Doctors have treated six other people at the scene and they are all fine, police said.

Photos of the scene in Ireland’s Four Courts show a gaping hole in the front of the building with clouds of smoke pouring out.

A fire service spokesman said the accident happened around 6.45pm and firefighters arrived at the pub to find it had gone up in flames. The fire has now been extinguished, the fire service said.

Mary Reilly, a server at the Four Courts Irish pub in Arlington, Virginia, describes the moments when a car pulled into the restaurant Friday night.

“I was just talking to some regulars coming in and I heard a bang. We all heard a bang, an explosion, so I just turned around and I saw all the rubble coming to the back of the pub. So it was just pure panic,” Mary Reilly, a server at the pub, told News4. “It was just pure panic. ‘Everyone at the back, everyone at the back.’ That was it. Panic.”

Reilly said she didn’t see the car at all from where she was, and she saw smoke and debris.

“I thought the whole place was going to explode,” she said.

Reilly said she believes the number of injured would have been worse if the bar had been busier, as it usually is on a Friday night.

“It’s the grace of God we weren’t busy tonight. Sure, servers, bartenders complain that we’re not busy, but we’re usually full. That top bar the car went through is usually full,” she says. said.

It is too early to know why the car crashed into the building or how extensive the structural damage to the pub is, the spokesman said. While it’s unclear which direction the car was driving before the crash, the restaurant is located at an intersection with N. Courthouse Road that ends at Wilson Boulevard.

More than an hour after the accident, dozens of firefighters, medics and police officers were still on the scene.

Ireland’s Four Courts is a popular spot for football fans and the bar’s trivia nights are also a crowd pleaser.

According to the website, the pub has been around for 20 years. It asked in a tweet for “keep all the injured in your thoughts and prayers.”
