The 49ers defeated the Rams 24-9 on Monday night, and as would be expected from Niners’ victories over the past two seasons, star-wide receiver Deebo Samuel was a huge reason why. Samuel had 117 receiving yards with six receptions, including an astonishing 57-yard touchdown. Samuel had to stop all his forward momentum to jump and make the catch in the 49ers area before breaking several tackles en route to the end zone.

At one point during the game, Rams star cornerback Jalen Ramsey appeared to be in the perfect position to make the tackle, but he dove at Samuel’s feet, barely slowing him down. Several people on social media immediately joked about Ramsey’s “business decision,” including Akash Anavarathan and Rob Guerrera of Niners Nation. Multiple 49ers also noted Ramsey’s failed attempt.

After the game, as first noted by @swifty_gamez90 on TikTok, Mike McGlinchey went to Ramsey with the right tackle from the 49ers and pointed at Samuel before being pushed away. We don’t know what McGlinchey said, of course, but it seems reasonable to speculate that it had something to do with the corner’s inability to take Samuel down on the previous game.

“Yeah, I don’t know what he was doing there,” Samuel said during his post-match press conference when asked about Ramsey’s attempt to tackle him. “I just went past him. He just backed off. I thought, ‘What’s going on?'”

Ramsey has long been considered the best cornerback in the NFL due to his unique combination of athleticism and physicality in cover and the open field. However, on Monday night, Ramsey didn’t want a part of Samuel as he rushed across the field towards him.
