2022 Granite State Debate with 2nd District Candidates: Social Security

HAMPSHIRE. NEXT QUESTION, JEAN MACKIN. OKAY. WHEN IT COMES TO SOCIAL SECURITY. AMERICANS ARE JUST CONCERNED THAT THE SYSTEM WILL BE THERE WHEN THEY ARE READY TO RETIRE, BUT ALSO THAT THE BENEFITS ARE LAST ENOUGH THAT THEY CAN RELY ON IN LAST YEARS. WHAT WILL YOU DO TO ENSURE THAT THE SYSTEM CAN CONTINUE TO PAY THESE BENEFITS FOR THE NEXT GENERATION. CONGRESS WOMAN KUSTER? NOW THIS IS SIMPLE. ONLY MUST DO IS RAISE THE CAP ON THE CONTENT. I HAVE SUPPORTED THIS IN EVERYTHING AND I BELIEVE THAT IS THE WAY TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE PROCESS. LOOK THE REPUBLICANS IN WASHINGTON HAVE MADE THEIR GOAL TO REDUCE THE BENEFITS OF SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICINE. HAPPY FOR THE PEOPLE HERE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE dealing with inflation, THE AMOUNT OF SOCIAL SECURITY REALLY INCREASES 8%. AND THESE PEOPLE LIVE ON A FIXED INCOME. AND MANY OF THEM, MY OWN MOTHER-IN-LAW, LIVE ON A FIXED INCOME, OF SOCIAL SECURITY. AND IT IS VERY. SO I AM AGAINST CUTTING SOCIAL SECURITY. AND I WILL FIGHT VERY, VERY HARD FOR SENIORS AND TO MAKE SURE THAT BENEFITS OF EARNING THE MONEY WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM THEIR VOUCHERS, ARE THERE FOR THEM. AND YOUR THOUGHTS, MR. BURNS? I HAVE BEEN VERY CLEAR THAT I AM AGAINST CHANGES IN SOCIAL SECURITY. THE LIES YOU HEAR FROM THE COMMERCIAL ON TELEVISION, WHICH NEVER SPECIFICALLY ME, BUT NEVER MEET OTHER REPUBLICANS I NEVER MEET, NEVER GET A DOLLAR FROM SOCIAL SECURITY. I BELIEVE WE SHOULD MAKE ANY CHANGES. BUT THE WAY WE FINANCE SOCIAL SECURITY IS THAT MORE PEOPLE ARE WORKING. AND I TALKED ABOUT THIS. WE HAVE PEOPLE WITH DRUG ADDICTIONS THAT DO NOT WORK BECAUSE THEY ARE IN DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAMS. THEY CAN’T GET TO WORK BECAUSE WE HAVE NO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN THE STATE. WE HAVE DISABLED PEOPLE, PEOPLE WITH PTSD WHO CANNOT WORK BECAUSE THEY ARE TOLD IF THEY WORK TOO MUCH THEN THEY WILL LOSE ALL THEIR BENEFITS. WE MUST STOP THAT. WE MUST STOP THREATENING DISABLED PEOPLE THAT IF THEY GET A JOB FOR SIX MONTHS OR A YEAR, ALL THEIR BENEFITS, INCLUDING THEIR HOUSING, HAVE BEEN LOST. You know, MAYBE THEY WILL REFUND A LITTLE EXTRA ON THEIR BENEFITS IF THEY START TOO MUCH MONEY. BUT WE HAVE TO WORK EVERY PERSON OUT THERE. WE NOW HAVE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN THE UNITED STATES WORKING. WE SHOULD JOIN PEOPLE TO WORK AND NOT SLAVE LABOR. I mean you know
