Daredevil’s New Suit Was Non-Negotiable for Marvel Studios

The writers of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law had free rein when it came to Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, but his yellow and red suit was a tough demand.

When Charlie Cox’s Daredevil Makes Its Long-Awaited Entry In She-Hulk: Lawyerhe’ll be wearing a suit not seen on screen before, and this was apparently a choice straight out of Marvel Studios.

She-Hulk lead writer Jessica Gao explained in an interview with Lifehacker that while she was given few restrictions on using the Daredevil character in the Disney+ series, his costume was a must. “The only thing I had no control over was the suit,” Gao said. “They knew exactly what they wanted the suit to look like.”

Daredevil’s red and yellow suit, first spotted in the She-Hulk trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con in July is strikingly different from anything he wore in his own Netflix series, but resembles the one designed by Bill Everett who featured in the earliest daredevil comics. Whether this colorful look will have an in-universe origin is up in the air, as the connection Cox’s version of Matt Murdock has to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still questionable. Cox played the part for three seasons of daredevil, which was clearly intertwined with other Marvel series on Netflix, but was never recognized by movies in the MCU. His brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home he eventually established him as the MCU’s “official” Daredevil, but fans are divided on whether this means his show’s history has been canonized.

Daredevil is back in the game

Anyway, Cox will reprise his Daredevil role for more than just a cameo in She-Hulk. The latest TV spot for the series, which premiered Thursday, confirms that Daredevil will team up with Tatiana Maslany’s titular character Jennifer Walters. The two are shown together in a darkened gym, with Cox wearing the same gloves as in the SDCC trailer.
