Dominaa small indie game on steam about how to manage gladiators has started trending online recently, but not because it’s a really good game or because it got a cool update or anything like that. Nope, instead the developer behind the game has recorded a wild and shitty rant about trans-political commentator and streamer Clara “Keffals” Sorrentic in the patch notes for Dominathe latest update. And oddly enough, this isn’t the first time this developer has seen bizarre and horrible political diatribes in the patch comments for Domina.
To recap, on August 5, Sorrenti was the target of a slapping attack that led to the London, Ontario Police Department falsely arresting her and repeatedly using her dead name as she stuck a gun to her face. After describing the attack in a YouTube video a few days later, Sorrenti and her fiancé moved into a hotel that was thought to be safe. But members of the violent transphobic hate speech forum Kiwi Farms have remained Sorrenti. stalk and harass as she fought back and tried to force server hosting and security company Cloudflare to stop supporting the site and its dangerous users.
The pressure to drop the forum continues at the time of writing, with Cloudflare recently stating that it had no plans to drop KiwiFarms, with the company’s CEO in a blog from August 31 that “Just as the telephone company will not end your line if you say horrible, racist, bigoted things, we have concluded in consultation with politicians, policy makers and experts that shutting down security services because we believe what you are publishing is despicable is the wrong policy.”
For some reason, the developer behind the unrelated Steam game Domina decided to share their thoughts and bad opinions about Sorrenti, transgender people and more in a totally unrelated video game. In the patch notes for the August 31 update to the game, the developer added an unhinged and barely cohesive diatribe claiming that the game’s name was being changed and referencing the old name over and over as its dead name. We’re pointing it out here less because it deserves some attention, and more because it’s absurd that something like this could be uploaded to an official, professional storefront.
Here’s the full rant as shared in Dominapatch notes for the 1.3.25 update, but a warning that the text below contains some nasty, anti-trans bullshit:
dead name: domina. Please don’t mention it anymore. We mention it here just to say: no more. It’s perfectly normal to change the gender of a video game and CONFUSE FOR ANYONE. Please don’t be a bigot. If you are confused please stop being confused and remember that DOMINA does not exist and never existed, but DOMINUS does exist and has always existed, you just didn’t know you played a man dressed like a woman, but now that we reveal it to you, you have NO RIGHT to feel cheated like the poor drunk guys who transvestites like Keffals had intercourse without revealing they were male, have no right to feel wronged and you’ you’re a bigot for being confused or even mentioning that such a thing happens, let alone having an opinion about it.
This alone is bad, but the crazy thing is that this isn’t the first or even the second time this developer has used Steam Patch Notes to share unchecked rants on various political topics.
Earlier this yearthe developer got mad at people wearing masks to avoid covid-19, wrote in an earlier update patch notes that people who wear masks don’t get girlfriends and that women prefer men who are confident. The developer also asked what people who wore masks were “afraid of” and ended by suggesting that they are actually afraid of “being slaughtered”. Before that, the developer also complained in patch notes for: Domina those people watch too much porn.
It’s strange that after all these examples of the developer using the patch comments for disgusting and bizarre diatribes that Valve has seemingly been doing… nothing at all, at least on the most public front. In a way, it makes sense, as the company has historically avoided having to actually do anything when it comes to running its mega-popular Steam PC gaming service. Most of the features built into the service are community owned and operated, with Valve taking a largely hands-off approach.
But it looks like this is a clear example of someone misusing Steam’s patch notes to harass and attack someone else by name, and it seems like something Valve would want to stop. However, Valve did it recently ban developer Dolphin Barn Incorporated from its own Steam forums after abusive and toxic messages. (This, of course, led to another fucking rant using Dominatrix Steam page.)
Kotaku has contacted Valve about the rants, but has not heard from the company before publication. When contacted about the rant and asked why they decided to use their game’s patch comments on Steam to comment on Keffals, the developer instead complained that Twitter suspended their account and continued to attack Sorrenti.
“I lost my verified Twitter account where I used my real name,” the developer explains, “while ‘Keffals’ is now verified, with a fake name, while I’m ‘hiding’ after pretending to cry [sic] on national TV and admitted that they had sexual relations with men, without telling them that they were also born male.”
As for Sorrenti, she seems especially confused and exhausted by the patch notes. Earlier today, she shared them on Twitter and asked the developer to keep her out of his “midlife crisis.”
“Can I please go one day without the weirdest creeps on the internet projecting their insecurities into me?” asked Sorrenti on Twitter in a follow-up tweet. “Bro, I’m just sitting here shaking.”
