Falcons 2022 roster cuts tracker

Date:

It’s been a rough few days in the NFL, as hundreds of players from a hopeful roster search for a new team. The Falcons are no exception, as they must slash 27 players by 4 p.m. tomorrow.

We don’t know when Atlanta will be announcing their cuts as it could be any time between now and tomorrow afternoon, but we do know that there are some very tough decisions to be made in position groups like wide receiver and the defensive line, where multiple depth options played out. this summer very well. We’ll see who’s staying and who’s leaving soon enough, and we’ll be collecting updates here as they come in. Again, remember that this is a tough time for NFL players and be kind in your responses.

Tuesday

  • Per ESPN’s Mike Rothstein, tackle Leroy Watson and inside linebacker Dorian Etheridge are being waived. Watson is a long term tackling development project and Etheridge is a capable reserve and special teamer, so don’t be surprised if either or both end up back on the practice team.

  • Atlanta continues to taper a deep receiver position, with Cameron Batson joining Darby and Berryhill in today’s cuts list.
  • Looks like there won’t be a fourth coming back on the roster either or the team will add an outside option as the Falcons reportedly cut back veteran Qadree Ollison.
  • Rookie undrafted free agent Stanley Berryhill has also been waived, per ESPN’s Mike Rothstein. Berryhill’s special team abilities and promise as a receiver make him an interesting long-term prospect, but I’m not sure if he’ll rejoin the Atlanta practice squad or not.
  • Rookie guard Justin Shaffer is one of the cuts reported early. The ferocious Georgia run-blocker mostly ran with the third-team offensive line in camp, but by all accounts, it’s a player the Falcons like and will likely be back on the practice squad. Elijah Wilkinson and Chris Lindstrom are your starters, and Jalen Mayfield and Colby Gossett will likely make the roster.

  • Veteran tight end MyCole Pruitt is also cut off. His ties to Arthur Smith and blocking skills again make him a strong bet for the practice squad, but it may depend on what the team decides to do with rookie John FitzPatrick.
  • Frank Darby is the first reported cut. I would have thought he was strong enough to make the roster at the end, but instead it looks like he’ll probably end up on the Atlanta practice squad.

  • Caleb Huntley was reported to ESPN by Mike Rothstein shortly after. Huntley competed with Qadree Ollison for one spot on the roster and is a natural candidate for the practice squad.
