Files in Spider-Man Remastered suggest Sony may release its own PC launcher

Date:

Since its release last week, fans have been diving into the files of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. It has yielded some interesting things, such as a potential wrecked multiplayer mode for the game.

Recently, however, data miners have found evidence that Sony is considering releasing its own PC launcher in the future (via VGC), with references to one such project tucked away in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered.

Digital Foundry gives Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered the technical review.

While this has not been officially confirmed, it does align with other speculation on the internet. Earlier this year, a PlayStation job posting was advertised, with the company looking for a “director, product management – PC gaming experiences”.

For this role, the successful candidate was required to “lead the overall PC gaming experiences for PlayStation, including the leadership and responsibility to deploy and deliver our players around the world… The roadmap for PlayStation game- lead and develop experience for all game-related experiences, including SDK development, client application experiences as PlayStation network platform integration”.

This move is also something that many have predicted that Sony will make in the future. Already in early 2020 it was already discussed on forums such as ResetEra.

In addition, VGC has also reviewed files related to PSN linkage and subsequent in-game rewards, suggesting that this will also be coming to PC in the future. The files in question reportedly contain multiple references to “PSNAccountLinked” and “PSNLinkingEntitlements”, so keep an eye on this space.

As for PlayStation and its thriving PC collection, a new site dedicated to its PC releases went live earlier this month.

This site covers current and upcoming games, with Miles Morales slated for release this fall, while the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection still has a vague 2022 release window next to it.

Meanwhile, while The Last of Us Part 1 has been announced to be coming to PC in the future, it’s still not on the site.

Elsewhere in the news, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered got off to an impressive start on Steam. But even our friendly neighborhood superhero wasn’t able to knock Kratos off the top spot when it came to concurrent player counts.
