A violent street gang targeting the homes of wealthy athletes and celebrities in the Atlanta area — including Mariah Carey’s — was charged with more than 200 crimes in Georgia, prosecutors announced Monday.

Twenty-six members of the Drug Rich gang are facing charges, including kidnapping, home invasion, shootings and armed robbery, over the series of crimes that also victimized social media influencers, according to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

“What they’re doing is targeting people who are showing off their wealth on social media,” Willis said.

“So I have a message for the public: Where it’s pretty fun putting your stuff on social media and showing off, unfortunately these gangs are getting smarter and more sophisticated in the way they target you,” Willis said during a steamed press conference. by 11 Alive News.

Carey’s home has been broken into, as well as that of Calvin Ridley of the Atlanta Falcons, Marlo Hampton of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and Atlanta United footballer Brad Guzan, according to Fulton County prosecutors.

Most of the defendants were charged in connection with the state’s racketeering and anti-gang laws in the 220-count indictment filed on Aug. 22.

Willis said their research was aided by lyrics in the rap songs.

“You can’t commit crimes in my county and then decide to brag about it, which you’re doing for a form of intimidation and to promote the gang and not be held accountable,” she said, referring to a lyric that mentions harassment. a door and stealing a car.

“I have some legal advice: don’t confess to crimes on rap lyrics if you don’t want them to be used,” Willis warned. “Or at least get out of my country.”
