GoT’s Emilia Clarke Insulted by TV CEO in Front of Shocked Fans

An Australian television company CEO insulted actor Emilia Clarke in front of Game of Thrones fans during a House of the Dragon screening.

HuffPost Reports Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany Was Discussing Game of Thrones during the screening when he made an unflattering comment about Clarke, who played all seven seasons of the hit HBO series as Daenerys Targaryen. “I was like, ‘What kind of show is this with the short, fat girl walking into the fire?'” Delany reportedly said in front of a crowd in attendance. Delany’s statement was supposedly made in reference to a scene where Daenerys emerges from a blazing fire completely unscathed.

Many audience members were understandably confused and upset by Delany’s comment. One participant reportedly said, “It felt like he expected us to join in the laughter, but the people in the room were clearly shocked by it.” Travis Johnson, a film critic who was also in attendance, said he had to ask his friend to clarify what he had heard because of his utter shock at Delany’s attempt at a joke.

Following a response from fans, a Foxtel spokesperson issued a statement regarding Delany’s comments. “The goal was to get that across for him, Game of Thrones was something very different to television in 2011 and that Emilia Clarke went from relatively unknown to one of the most recognized and beloved actors in television and film,” the statement said. “On behalf of Mr. Delany, the Foxtel Group apologizes if his comments were misunderstood and caused some offense.”

Delany’s words seem even more insensitive when she knows that Clarke suffered from two life-threatening brain aneurysms during her stay. Game of Thrones. In July, Clarke said that despite the “excruciating pain” caused by the incidents, she was grateful that she had survived. “[I]It is remarkable that I am able to speak, sometimes eloquently, and live my life completely normally without any repercussions,” said the Secret Invasion said star. “I belong to the very, very small minority of people who can survive that.”

Daenerys’ ties to House of the Dragon

While Clarke will no longer play Daenerys, the Targaryen family will act as HBO’s central characters House of the Dragon. Ryan Condal, co-showrunner of the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, recently revealed that the “tie with Daenerys Targaryen” was an important thematic element for him and the writers in developing the series.

House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and HBO Max on August 21.
