Israeli air strikes in Syria kill three soldiers: State media | Syria’s War News

Date:

The latest Israeli attacks have targeted sites around the capital Damascus and south of the coastal province of Tartus.

Israeli airstrikes on Syria killed three soldiers and injured three others in Israel’s latest attack on the war-torn country.conf

State media said air defense forces had to face what it said was Israeli bombing raids on targets near Syria’s coastal province of Tartus.

“The aggression resulted in the death of three soldiers and the injury of three others,” Syria’s official news agency, SANA, said, citing an unnamed military source.

Since the civil war broke out in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in the country targeting government positions, allied Iranian-backed forces and Hezbollah fighters.

His troops also faced “enemy targets” over the Qalamoun Mountains near the border with Lebanon, SANA reported.

A Syrian military statement said there were two simultaneous Israeli attacks – one a rocket attack targeting the countryside near the capital Damascus, carried out from the southeast of the Lebanese capital Beirut.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor also reported the same number of dead and wounded in the second strikes near an air defense base in Tartus province, where Iranian-backed groups operate.

The target site in Tartus is 5 miles from a Russian base, said the observer, who has a wide network of sources in Syria.

It said ambulances had rushed to the site of the attacks in Tartus.

In early July, the Syrian Defense Ministry said two civilians had been injured in an Israeli attack from the Mediterranean Sea near the town of Al-Hamadiyah, south of the city of Tartus.

Israeli shelling injured two civilians in southern Syria near the occupied Golan Heights on Friday, state media said.

Last month, an Israeli attack near Damascus killed three Syrian soldiers, state media said at the time. The Syrian Observatory said the attack targeted a military facility and an “Iranian weapons depot”.

After the latest incident, Israeli authorities told AFP news agency that they “do not comment on reports in foreign media”.

While Israel rarely comments on individual attacks in Syria, the military has defended them as necessary to prevent its nemesis Iran from gaining a foothold.

The conflict in Syria started with the brutal suppression of peaceful protests and escalated to bring in foreign powers and fighters.

The war claimed the lives of nearly half a million people and displaced half of the country’s pre-war population from their homes.

Russia’s military intervention in 2015 helped turn the war in favor of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whose forces once controlled just one-fifth of the country.
