It’s a bad time to buy an iPhone. It’s bad if you want to rock the latest Apple cell, and iit is bad if you want to buy an older, more economical model. Industry viewers expect Apple to announce iPhone 14 in September, and if/when does, Apple’s entire pricing structure will almost definitely change—so hold that cracked shielded phone a little while longer if you can.
September Means New Apple Products (Mostly)
While no date is currently set for Apple’s next big announcement, Apple is rumored to announce the iPhone 14 on Tuesday, September 7. Sept 14 for sale. 24. It’s Part of a Pattern: The iPhone 13 was announced at an event on September. 14, 2021 and started shipping on September. 24. The Apple 11 was announced on September. 13, 2019 and shipped on Sept. 20. Same basic pattern with the iPhone 8, 7, 6 and 5.
However, some years Apple breaks the combo: The iPhone 12 was announced in October 2020 and came out shortly after (although you can probably blame COVID for that)and the iPhone X does not hit stores to November 2017, even if it is was announced in September.
How iPhone prices are likely to change when the iPhone 14 is released
If you must have the latest phone, you should definitely hold off on your purchase – you don’t want to buy Apple’s flagship model just to have the best phone for about a month or so. But if you’re like me, and don’t really care about being on the cutting edge, it’s still a good idea to cool your heels down until the next big Apple announcement.

When Apple officially unveils a new model, the price of older phones will drop. In recent years, Apple lowered the prices of older models immediately after announcing new ones, so you shouldn’t even have to wait the extra weeks for the 14 to start shipping. When Apple announced the iPhone 13 last year, the price of a 64GB iPhone 12 dropped from $800 to $700. Prices have dropped by about the same amount in recent years. Once Apple announces a new model or in September or later, tech experts expect the price of an iPhone 12 mini to drop to $500, not bad for a full 5G phone. And Given the rumor that Apple plans to drop the iPhone mini altogether when the iPhone 14 is announced, phone with a smaller screen.
The only Apple phone you can probably safely buy right now
If you’re looking for a relatively cheap 5G phone from Apple, the Apple SE is still on the market and probably safe to buy (at least according to The MacRumors Buyer’s Guide). The SE is now $430, and was announced in Marchso there is still some life in the product cycle.
