Jonah Hill and Christopher Mintz-Plasse didn’t click during the Super bad casting process.
For the 15th anniversary of the 2007 raunchy teen comedy, the cast and crew talked about the making of Super bad in a Vanity Fair oral history. Seth Rogen, who co-wrote and co-starred in the film, recalled how Hill initially “hated” Mintz-Plasse, which worked for the dynamics of the characters.
“Jonah hated him right away. He was like, ‘That was in my rhythm. I couldn’t perform with that guy,'” Rogen, 40, recalled Hill saying about Mintz-Plasse’s audition with him.
Producer Judd Apatow said the McLovin actor was “very caustic and attacked Jonah and improvised to insult Jonah” during his third callback.
Apatow, 54, recalled: “Jonah said, ‘I don’t like that guy. I don’t want him to do it.’ And I said, “That’s exactly why we hire him. It couldn’t be more perfect. The fact that it bothers you is exactly what we want.” “

Hill, 38, also admitted, “Chris was really, really great off the bat. And I think he was really annoying to me at the time.”
Mintz-Plasse, 33, recalled being a “skinny kid” who responded to an open casting call and was “super excited to be there.”
“It was my first movie and I was nervous,” he added – and after the movie hit theaters and became a hit, the actor started getting recognized everywhere he went.
“I remember going to Chipotle the following weekend. I was recognized and a girl climbed over my friends to try to touch me. And I would run out of the Chipotle and all their friends would run after me,” Mintz – said Plasse.

“I just remember having so much fun with Emma,” Hill said.
Stone, 33, added: “It was all about making each other laugh, and who could just kind of stand up to each other and say something that would break everyone. Jonah was really nice to me from the start. And he’s such a fun and loving person to work with.”
