Chesapeake police tell News 3 that 7 people were killed and some injured after a shooting at a Walmart.
Police say the lone gunman is dead.
A Sentara Healthcare spokesperson confirmed that five patients were being treated at Sentara General Hospital in Norfolk. An update to their terms and conditions was not immediately available.
The Chesapeake Police Department tells News 3 that the call came in around 10:15 p.m. at the Walmart on Battlefield Blvd. News 3 teams on site reported dozens of police cars and medical personnel on site.
Police said they treated the scene as an active shooter situation and responded accordingly.
A reunion center has been set up at the Chesapeake Conference Center at 700 Conference Center Drive.

A family reunion site is being set up at the Chesapeake Conference Center (700 Conference Center Drive). This site is only for close family members or the emergency contact of those who may have been in the building.

Walmart released the following statement:
“We are shocked by this tragic event at our store in Chesapeake, Virginia. We pray for those affected, the community and our employees. We work closely with law enforcement and we are focused on supporting our employees.”

The city’s mayor tweeted the following statement:

Sickened by reports of yet another mass shooting, this time at a Walmart in Chesapeake. I will follow developments closely.
In the meantime, I urge everyone in the community to heed local law enforcement guidelines and stay away from the crime scene.

Senator Louis Lucas also sent her thoughts on the shooting.
