Just imagine if, bright-eyed as a kid at Christmas, I ripped open the box of my brand new PlayStation 5 earlier this year. Out of the box I felt the weight and found it heavy even then. I left it alone while fiddling with the cables. In an instant, the $500 I had just spent fell like a loose rock from the table I foolishly left it on. It landed on the carpet with a heartbreaking thud. I rocked it like a parent would child, nurturing and stroking, hoping nothing was damaged. Luckily it worked, but even then I wondered why the beast needed all that weight.

Well, luckily Sony Interactive is apparently still working on the PS5′s total weight. Australian gaming news site press start reported for the first time on Monday That the newly released CFI-1202 series PS5 models are: lighter than previous versions! The CFI-1202A Disc Version and CFI-1202B Digital Edition Unveiled by Japanese retailers and have been since picked up by a couple of Aussie game stores, despite not being officially available yet, hence the report of the Australian publication.

After searching each console’In the manual, the reporters noticed that each console was a lot lighter. The disc version weighs 8.6 pounds (3.9 kg), which is slightly less than the 2021 version, which weighed 9.2 pounds (4.2 kg). The latest digital edition weighs 7.5 pounds (3.4 kg) compared to the 8.6 pounds (3.9 kg) 2021 version.

The news about this lighter console comes less than a week after Sony announced it was drive up the price of both consoles digital and disc versions in most of the world’s most popular markets. The console is now 50 Australian dollars more expensive in that country, although Sony claimed the price increase was due to inflation and “adverse currency trends”. The few major markets where the console remains at its previous price point are the US, Brazil and South Korea.

Tthis isn’t the first time Sony has reduced the weight of its premium console. The company has also lowered the PS5s weight in 2021 with the CFI-11XX models. The big difference from last year’s version was a change in the heat sink. Tech YouTuber Austin Evans opened one last year to compare and found a cooling system a little over half a pound lighter than the one in the PS5s launch models. Press Start noted that the disc version of the new PS5 model has a handle equivalent to the digital version of the 2020 launch PS5. The original CFI-10XX models weighed 9.9 pounds (4.5 kg) and 8.6 pounds (3.9 kg), respectively.

although the question has been infiniteSony did their damn best to try increase the production of his still rare console. In May, the company told shareholders it was selling much less consoles than the wild because of supply shortages. The weight reduction may be related to efforts to beat wait times on parts and potato chips.

This console model won’t be officially released until September 15, So No One Has Opened These Puppies Yet To Find Out What Sony Did To Make It console less heavy. Know the tech tendency to roar at the chance to see what’s going on under the hood, that probably won’t last too long.
