NFL preseason Week 3 scores, highlights: Baker Mayfield off to hot start vs. Bills, Mark Ingram scores twice

The NFL preseason is almost over, but we still have a full football weekend to digest. We have four games on Friday night, culminating in new Raiders coach Josh McDaniels versus his former mentor Bill Belichick and the Patriots and Baker Mayfield getting some reps against the Bills in preparation for Week 1.

It started on Thursday night, when the Kansas City Chiefs took home a win over the Green Bay Packers, and the Houston Texans outdid the San Francisco 49ers.

Each of the 32 NFL teams will tackle this week differently. Some will play their starters a little, some will play their starters more and some not at all. In reality, this week is more about the reserves as the coaching staff from across the league figure out who will make their 53-man rosters.

Below, we’ll break down the highlights of all 16 preseason games. Bookmark this post as it is your one stop shop for everything you need to see.

Drew Lock connects on beautiful TD pass

The Drew Lock experience is in full effect. After throwing an interception on his first run of the game, Lock earned another chance to demonstrate his arm strength. Fighting for the starting quarterback job in Seattle, Lock hit Penny Hart with a 35-yard touchdown pass. Throws don’t get much better than this in week 3 of the preseason.

Lock has the chance to take the job from Geno Smith, who started this game for Seattle. Head coach Pete Carroll says he will name a starter after the third preseason game.

Mark Ingram gets second TD in opening quarter

Mark Ingram is the active leading rusher in the NFL and still has a prominent role with the Saints. of their backups.

This touchdown run was from 2 yards.

Baker Mayfield finds Shi Smith for the score

Mayfield won the Carolina starting quarterback job and puts the exclamation point at this training camp with a 19-yard strike to Shi Smith for the touchdown. Named as Mayfield’s target of choice by some of the local Carolina writers, Smith is emerging as a contender for not only a spot on the list, but snaps in regular season matches.

Mayfield has two touchdown passes in the first quarter. That might be something for him.

To the surprise of some, the Texans’ starting quarterback took the field before the start of the second half. After a pedestrian first two quarters in which he threw an interception, Mills led a six-play, 77-yard drive that ended with a touchdown – a 16-yard strike for Chris Moore.

This is a nice ball pass in the middle of the field. Houston has high hopes for his sophomore signal-caller.

It’s Bushmen’s world, we just live in it

Matt Bushman is having a great night, scoring 73 receiving yards on his first three catches. He scored his second touchdown of the game at the start of the third quarter on a play that looked like a turnover waiting to happen.

Must-See Interception

What initially seemed like a great touchdown catch from the Texans turned into a 49ers interception in the blink of an eye. Thanks to both defensive backs in this game for fighting for the ball. Samuel Womack III knocked it loose, and then Tarvarius Moore somehow reeled it in.

Whose husband was that?!

Chiefs tight end Matt Bushman ran an easy corner route, and it resulted in a 54-yard touchdown. The safety wasn’t looking in his direction and the cornerback thought he was handing the tight end to his teammate. This piece is going to look ugly when the Chiefs rate the movie.

The Packers got off to a slow start on Thursday night — going three-and-forth on their first two possessions. However, things started to click on their third drive, when Green Bay went down 83 yards on 11 plays to score the first touchdown of the game.

It was the unwritten rookie from Iowa who got into the end zone for the Packers. Check out this EXPLOSIVE run by Tyler Goodson capped off by the spin move.

Texan Dameon Pierce continues warm start

Houston’s rookie running back was one of the stars of the preseason. After an impressive outing in Week 1, Pierce didn’t play last weekend. Texan head coach Lovie Smith said he kept Pierce out because they saw a lot of him in the first preseason game. per Pro Football Networkwhich could mean he is RB1.

However, Pierce played Thursday night and on the Texans’ opening drive, he rushed six times for 37 yards, while Houston went into the field 85 yards on 11 plays and scored a touchdown. Who scored for the Texans? I’ll guess you one time.

‘Choir huddle’ honors Len Dawson

Earlier this week, legendary Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson died at 87. The former No. 5 overall pick was a Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP, NFL Man of the Year, and a Chiefs legend. To open the Chiefs’ matchup on Thursday night before the season, Patrick Mahomes took to the field and lined up his attack in the famous “chorus huddle” to honor Dawson.

After the game penalty delay, which was rejected by the Packers, Mahomes trotted off the field.
