Olivia Wilde doesn’t mince words when it comes to her custody battle with ex Jason Sudeikis.

The don’t worry baby director spoke in a new interview with . indicated that he had legal papers on stage at CinemaCon in April Variety. She described it as “cruel” and suggested Ted Lasso star tried to ‘sabotage’ her while she was in the middle of a presentation to sell her film to movie theater owners around the world. But Wilde — who shares Otis, 8, and Daisy, 5, with Sudeikis — added she wasn’t surprised.

“It was my place of work,” said Wilde, who was with Sudeikis for nine years until late 2020 — then started dating don’t worry baby star Harry Styles. “In any other workplace it would be seen as an attack. It was really shocking. It shouldn’t have happened. There was a huge security breach, that’s really scary. The hurdles you had to jump through to get into that room coming with different badges, plus special COVID testing that had to be done days in advance, giving you the wristbands needed to access the event – this was something to be considered in advance.”

“I hated that this mess was distracting from the work of so many different people and the studio I represented there,” said Wilde, taking the envelope from the process server and coolly continued her presentation. “Trying to sabotage that was really mean. But I had a job to do; I’m not easily distracted… But you know, unfortunately, it wasn’t something that surprised me at all. I mean, there’s a reason I left that relationship.”

For his part, Sudeikis said at the time that he had “no foreknowledge of the time or place” Wilde would be served, as it was a trial company. Further: “He would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate way.” A New York judge has since rejected Sudeikis’ request, asking Otis and Daisy to stay with him in New York. (Before Wilde and Sudeikis broke up, they split their time between London and Los Angeles after leaving New York.)

Wilde said that “the only people who suffered” from the CinemaCon debacle “were my children, because they have to see that, and they should never know that happened. For me it was terrible, but the victims were an 8- and 5 year old, and that’s really sad. I chose to be an actress; I willingly walked into the spotlight. But it’s not something my kids asked for. And when my kids get dragged into it, it’s deeply painful .”

Wilde also spoke about their custody arrangement, saying they are splitting custody with the exchange taking place every week. She said that when she’s with the kids – in London, where she lives – she devotes herself to them 24/7, before making breakfast and tucking them in at night.

“They are my world,” she said. “They are my best friends.”

Wilde just wishes she had more privacy as her family continues to transition into his new form.

“Over the past two years, my family has gone through this kind of restructuring and a revolution that should be a completely personal experience,” she said. “And it isn’t. The most painful element of it was women putting me to shame for making a decision that was for my own health and happiness.”

Wilde was sloppy in the interview and also shared why she fired Shia LaBeouf – who was not short of baggage – from don’t worry baby. Styles was his replacement and played opposite Florence Pugh.

“I say this as someone who is such an admirer of his work,” Wilde said of LaBeouf. “His process was not conducive to the ethos I demand in my productions. He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I personally don’t believe that is conducive to the best performance.”

After LaBeouf was fired, FKA Twigs filed a lawsuit against LaBeouf, her former partner, for sexual assault.

“After this happened, a lot came to light that really worried me, in terms of his behavior,” Wilde said. “I find myself really wishing him health and evolution because I believe in restorative justice. But for our film, what we really needed. I needed an energy that was incredibly supportive. Especially with a film like this, I knew I was going to ask Florence to being in very vulnerable situations, and my priority was to make her feel safe and feel supported.”

And while there’s no shortage of rumors of squabbles between Wilde and Pugh, the… House alum praised her, saying she was “besotted by” Pugh in the 2019 movie Midsommar. “I loved the movie, but I loved her. I was like, ‘Well, she’s extraordinary. She’s clearly the hottest young actress working today.'”

It should be noted that Pugh declined to be interviewed for the story. There has been speculation that Pugh felt that Wilde and Styles’ romance was overshadowing the project. Pugh herself was critical that her sex scenes were so prominent in the first movie trailer.

“There’s been a lot that I largely don’t pay attention to,” Wilde said of the rumored drama. “I’m a woman who’s been in this business for over 20 years, and it’s something I’ve fought for for myself and others, especially as a director. There is absolutely no validity to those claims.”

Wilde was also hurt about her romance with Styles, which started on set when her relationship with Sudeikis ended. They were first spotted holding hands together in January 2021.

“I’m not going to say anything about it because I’ve never seen a relationship benefit from being dragged into the public arena,” Wilde said. “We both do our best to protect our relationship; I think it’s from experience, but also just out of deep love.”

She did criticize the way their relationship has been treated — and the double standard she sees. She is judged for dating a younger man, as Styles is 10 years younger than her, and she is labeled an absent mother when she is out with him.

“When people don’t see me with my kids, it’s always ‘How dare she,'” Wilde said. “I’ve never seen anyone say that about a man. And when he’s with his kid, he’s a hero.”

Wilde and Styles spoke the “hateful energy” toward their relationship in a rolling stone interview earlier this week:
